Buttoning up a front axle rebuild. Found lots of things the PO fxxxed up. For example, all the flange plate washers (between the cone washer and the nut) were missing on both sides. Didn't even know they were supposed to be there until I saw it in the FSM. Anyone know where to get 6 of those?

Also, set the wheel bearing preload with the Torque to 43 ftlb, rotate, loosen, torque to 43 ftlbs, loosen, tighten to 10 ftlb, measure with fish scale (10 lb). Then lock it down and remeasure with fish scale. But somehow after installing the flange, and re-installing wheel spacers, the preload is now up to 30-40 lb? How did that happen? Now I'm gonna have to pull the flange again and do it all over.......

I did, but I don't think it's needed. You can just sort of feel it when the bearings are snug but not binding. The scale is a good check though and I would still use it the next time I did the job.
I gave up on all that after constantly losing preload...just torque the fawkers to 25.

You are a better mechanic than I am, I liked having the fish scale as a "peace of mind" thing, mostly because I wanted that "smoothness" as it moved. I wish I could just plug and chug through a job like that, but I need the cookbook ;)
 
This weekend I changed the oil pump cover o-ring and crank seal on my 1996. Used some wits end vessel bits and had zero issues pulling all 7 factory screws out. I also installed a 150 amp sequoia alternator with photomans small pulley.
 
They look sweet and I did the same thing last year and splurged $200 plus on a set covers. Wish I had just done the full $300 on a new set of real leather replacements from Lseat. For the life of me i will never understand why.
I'm a quick learner and my Lseat covers should be here any day now.

Make sure you post pics, did your iggee covers go bad that quick??

I don't think they were iggee and they haven't gone bad but the seat covers don't make old seats comfortable again. My electric seats have always been the one constant thing that has needled me about my truck. Many half hearted attempts to resolve this have left me feeling the same but a lot out of pocket.
I recently found an old pair of manual seats from '94 which I have rebuilt the foam and will recover with the Lseat leather. Hopefully this will restore them to their previous glory.
