Pulled the old alternator apart to see if the windings are good. They are. That confirms the regulator is shot. Good grief that regulator is expensive... More than I paid for the whole reman Denso alternator!!!

Also did a quick review of my Noco Genius booster and Charger...

If you don't have these already...

Started out with purchasing a 10k lumen LED shop light. I much prefer a proper shop, but when I must, this light makes a HUGE difference.

From there I dug into replacement of the power steering pump. It’s been groaning for a while, so it needed to be done. I intended to do a reseal, but after trouble with dislodging the inner seal, I opted to replace it. Cordless impact and a leather glove made short work of gear removal - and a 2x4 pinch lever did the trick for the reinstall. I replaced the high pressure hose and a few of the low pressure lines.

While I was in there, I also finally got around to installing @Photoman 150A Sequoia alternator. What a fantatsic kit. Includes the small pulley. Bada-bing, bada-boom. Knocked out.

Truck runs beautifully and no groan when I turn the wheel. Fingers crossed I don’t find any odd leaks in the coming days.

Took a little road trip to lincoln Nebraska this weekend. Figured we'd stop by one of my favorite Iowa landmarks on the way back since my daughter loves cows. She was terrified lol, said the cow was too big! Of course the 80 performed flawlessly! Even though I had to turn off OD and run 3k+ rpms for most of the trip to stop the constant downshifting. It was a little cozy on the inside with 2 adults, 3 kids, and 2 dogs, but it made for another memorable trip :)

Headed out to Anza Borrego east of San Diego- sheep camp - was looking forward to the rock fall - a pretty steep and rocky section that’s a lot of fun to find that it’s been completely graded and a prius could get up it now

Any SoCal peeps know the deal here?

On way home gas cap wouldn’t open - tried tugging on the cable with a pair of pliers but to no avail and shredded it in the process - I knew there must be a release mechanism in the quarter panel - it would make perfect sense that there would be a way to open fuel panel door.....but the back was full of camping gear and I was lazy.....flathead screwdriver and a little leverage and it popped out with a broken plastic bracket.....

After unloading all the camp gear - seems that my tow hitch had fallen against the release mechanism in the quarter panel.....

Little lesson here.....could have saved me needing a new fuel release cable and lock bracket.....

Yeah... every year for the last 10 years or so they have been making it easier and easier. Do you remember the 20-30 yard river crossing? The entire area before the 1st crossing was very slow going, but now is graded... They finally put the final nail in the coffin with the filling and grading of the rock climb up into the upper Coyote Canyon area. I was there a few weeks back and my mouth was open in disbelief. Such a bummer.

Ok boring post alert...Overdrive switch replacement as the button would no longer stay depressed, and moot now anyway, but how the heck do you release the pins to slide out the metal tangs (for lack of a better term)? Dental picks & micro tools wouldn’t do it & after a few minutes I cut & spliced & decided not to let it turn a 10 minute swap into a half day frustro affair with a magnifying glass but it pissed me off for a good bit. What’s the technique???

So what did this weekend?
Once a year our group departs on a voyage to desert I call it roster and chickens trip with wives, or as my wife calls it "shake before use"
Usually we meet at the last gas station available before entering the trail, but with the wife we met at the last shopping mall for coffee in coffee out at "Aroma",
Aroma is Israeli network equivalent to Starbucks. But unlike Starbucks serving coffee made roasted donkey dongs Aroma serves excellent coffee. We all kept our credit cards close to our chest for some of us it didn't work so well.

We chose a route through the Large Crater or the Hatira Crater this is the geological park full of fossils of marine animals and forests. There are also sites of natural colored sand in a variety of colors.
The Large Crater is the smallest Crater that is visible by naked eye from the moon.
At the entrance to the crater we stoped to deflate tires, the chickens had to take selfy pictures

The Crater has only one 4X4 entrance and one exit. the exit is a pass on the other side.
The exit from the crater is a technical pass (medium easy) climbing the crater wall
There was a traffic jam on the pass because Land Rove discovery broke its rear axle, it took some time to bring a Jeep from the top to pull it up .

You aren't the first to have this happen to...

I removed the cover on that side because that's where I store my oil funnel and spout for my gas scepter cans. Always wanted easy access to them.

ofcourse after the fact I'm looking at the horror stories of installs, etc. I think I may cancel the order ! Here I thought I was getting a deal , and come to find out its like beating a dead horse, getting these ...yep calling them Monday when they open and cancelling the order... once thats done , I'll get the white knuckle ones instead
You won't be disappointed with the White Knuckle sliders. Easy to install except for one bolt on the cat guard.

Rain in the desert

I may if I can get rocky to refund the purchase. Unfortunately paypal can do nothing even though I ordered them today and an hr later wanted to cancel the order. If rocky doesn't answer my calls, etc ( I've already heard they don't usually ) I'll make the sliders work ! I have a small inverter welder and a cut off wheel for mods if need be. but if that happens I'll flame them on yelp and elsewhere to make sure NOBODY buys their swag again... so we'll see

If you put it on a card, can’t you contact your bank, and tell them to stop payment on it? My Credit Union let me do that seeing it was a fraudulent add. They.... in return.... could take you to court for the $$$, but they won’t, they know they are ripping people off! I welcomed them to bring me... lol

Rain in the desert

Thanks for the pics! It looks like all of you had a great time, and the kittens probably stayed right next to that fire all night! That rain makes it really messy! I remember gaining about 3-4 inches in height from the mud caked to the bottom of my boots! It’s like concrete mix! Again.... Thanks! Looks like real fun!
