What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (43 Viewers)

Started the weekend Friday installing my Trail Gear spindle bearing nut kit- wobble gone even though the bearings seemed tight. Then did oil change and transmission drain/fill.

Saturday I drove 2 1/2 hours to meet fellow Cruiserheads in Ann Arbor at Grizzly Peak Brewing for some brews and Cruiser talk. Next to my sisters house nearby for more brews and some March Madness.

Sunday I did a grease job and birf fill, then got ready for the Monday extended weekend adventure.

Monday I joined a couple friends to clean out a few log jambs near my buddies property on the south branch of the Pere Marquette river. Got to roll a couple of trails too.

Finally finished installing the leather kit for my front seats that I've been putting off for almost two years. Yeah, it's a bit of a pain in the ass to install, but completely worth it.

My seats weren't in horrible condition, but the leather had gotten very hard and my wife was complaining that the seats were uncomfortable. I installed new foam and seat heaters while I was at it. They came out better than I expected.

My only previous experience with upholstery work was on a '68 Cutlass that I was restoring, but these seats were a bit more challenging than those simple bench seats on the Cutlass.

Its so funny to me how our perception of old changes.
In '93 when I was in tenth grade, my older brother ( by a year and a half) bought a '72 chevelle. I thought that was an OLD classic car at the time. It was 21 years old.
Flash forward. I own a '94 TLC, and my 18 year old son owns a '95 Toyota pickup. They don't seem that old to me, but to my son, they are older than that Chevelle was to me!!!

I bought them a long time ago from Shane @ Metric TLC. The kit was fantastic, but other members here have had issues, to say the least with getting their products from him. In fairness, I have to say, I received my kit quickly and had no issues whatsoever. YMMV....

Spent the last 3 days out in the Chuckwalla & Orocopia mountains/Wilderness. This is a fantastic remote Wilderness area in California where BLM has designated off road trails through the mountains. The area is South of I-10 and north of the 80 mile Bradshaw trail that I did a month ago. This was a trip to finish some unexplored business and take in the wild flowers. I crossed almost all the mountain ranges you see in the pictures (4 times) with some being very easy to where you better pay attention given the remoteness of your travel. I will post again on the awesome offroading availability of the area.

over the last week.. replaced all the front end bushes with factory rubber, installed xxi adjustable caster plates, front end alignment to see what caster it is at now. Real noticeable improvement. Next week booked in for a rear tail shaft re-spline, uni's and balance, TIG weld a cppl of cracked mounting tabs on the intercooler, and fit the replacement spal fan that died last week. Also run extended diff breather lines. Had a good score of gumtree, a cargo barrier for $50

Lifted this G63 with OME 4" springs/shocks. The suspension is almost identical to the 80's. I had to fab up an adjustable panhard for the front and rear to recenter the axles and installed extended brake lines. Also installed 375's on 22" wheels which were slightly over 35" overall diameter. The 80 was about the same height with 37's and J springs.

Finally got out to drive a dirt road I've been eyeing for over a year. 48.7 miles of bliss. Spent one night and a nifty camp ground, engaged 4 low a couple of times and earned a battle scar. Time for sliders (I think I messed up the order of that).

Great stuff as usual Phil! Would like to see the routes/trails you took. This area is pretty desolate and not much info out there.

I've been reading that many wagon owners actually use the castor bushings from the 80 and they work on these rigs. So that's what I'm going to try.
