Well, you've probably read that people say don't use that stuff. In my experience it will clog up the little coolant passages you will see when you do a real head job. I'd advise getting the FSM and doing it right. It's not too hard! If there was "head gasket in a bottle" the 80 Series would be immortal!

Link to buy?

Thanks for that pic! Reminded me of getting clobbered in the head by my rear hatch while in Tahoe in December. Ordered these and forgot about them. 10 minutes and a 10mm socket...Wow....helluva improvement!

Pulled my gear box, and sent it out to West Texas Offroad for a rebuild. Power steering pump/hoses have been leaking for a while too, so everything old has been removed, and the new pump and hoses are sitting around ready for me to finish up. Still need to move the gear from old to new pump. Hoping for a noticeable update to my steering situation after all of this. Haven't really done any wrenching work since i did my head gasket (and all the extras) 2 years ago, so this has been a lot of fun.

Thank you, sir.

Started on my PS pump this weekend and ran out of time to finish it. Doing this I quickly realized how little room there is in some areas of the engine bay. In particular the hoses for the steering. Hopefully once back from my business trip I can finish and drive to have smoother steering. Or rather actual power steering.

Run both HAM and CB. Just do a clean install to make your (w)life happy.

I've got factory double din stereo and only thing I'd give it up for would be a tablet.. HAM will likely go next to the console after removing the cup holder

There are several models with small remote mount heads. Makes for an easy and clean install. The Yaesu 8900 isn't too expensive and has a very small remote head.

I thought about running a fancy double din with GPS, but most of "those" GPSs either untilise your phone for service or have iffy built in maps. I still use the old Garmin since, "Where we're going, we don't need roads."

OSMAND+ has excellent offline maps.

But does it use a separate GPS receiver and not rely on your cellphone? I've tried offline maps via my phone when out in BFE and I have yet to be impressed. I usually get no GPS service at all with either my AT&T or Verizon phones. Need to hear for from of the SoCal folks what has worked once they have entered Joshua Tree NP or ventured further out to Death Valley. Between the mountain ranges and lack of towers you truly are on your own out there.

I guess this is what I did last weekend, but fits the discussion.
The truck came with the RAM iPod mounted on the passenger grab handle, added another mount and hung the FT8800 face on it.

The radio body is mounted to the side of the storage drawer, and there are 2 speakers mounted to the centre console for the ham and cb radios. So far working great, and really like the position of the face plate. Yes I still need to clean up the wiring :hillbilly:

When I finally get around to doing the FT857D/Screwdriver install I'll do the same and mount the faceplate below the 8800.

Damn...doesn't leave much room for the big girls! :D

Trimble also has excellent offline maps. You just have to download them onto your iPad or other tablet before you go. Very detailed with Satellite, Topo and roads. You can slide the bar and have one overlay the others based on what you want to do. You just need a reliable external source of GPS coordinates.

Wife is 5'2" and not at all large. She has no issue with it, says it's not in the way at all.
Bonus on a long trip she can download a movie or 2 to the iPad, twist it to face her, and watch something with headphones.

Technically, at least. Not been tried yet.
