Went out to the desert. Pretty neat with the rain. Wannabe artsy shot....

Started my knuckle job today and of course Murphy raised his ugly head, Snapped a steering arm stud off in the knuckle, and one of the drive flange studs is stripped It had the wrong size nut on it, unusable, so waiting on parts... Still have lots to do, change rotors and burfields and lots of cleaning, knuckle went to the machine shop as the tools I have would have only made it worse, rather spend 50 bucks than have to source a knuckle... On disassembly of the passenger side someone had been in there before and had no clue what they were doing, truck was hit in the front right so this may have to contributed to the fastener issues, nothing was torqued to spec with much of it being loose, wheel and trunion bearings were both shot, with the trunion bearings rollers falling out of bearing retainer, glad I am baselining the truck and caught this before it created a dangerous situation... it's good to be able to do my own work and when it's done I will know what I have, thanks to the parts suppliers for all the assistance....
This is where I finished for the day....

Passenger side was full of loose fasteners with almost nothing torqued to spec, birfield soup, and a broken steering arm stud to boot, damn you Murphy...

I didn't run the full 50 mile track as time was short, but what I did drive was in great shape. That said, it rained today, so conditions likely changed.
We're doing that this spring/summer, dammit.

Glad to see I'm not the only one waiting on parts for this job!

The broken stud thing happen to me too you don't even know how many drill bits I broke to get that sucker out

those are some nice 11's  my 16 yo innner delinquent approves

Well, I was able to temporarily solve my misfire. Snow tires on the 4Runner!:bounce:

The family of 5 will be cramped, but a snow vacation waits on nothing.

That is completely and totally badass. Never let anyone tell you the runner is less of a truck than a LC.... just smaller.

Decided to replace my #2 Solenoid in my transmission valve body after having my torque Convertor randomly unlock a couple times while On freeway. Pulled Code 63 from TCM. So I dropped my pan and to my surprise I found a seal | washer with a small metal inner lip stuck on to 1 of the 4 magnets On oil pan. Needless to say I was almost in full panic mode. After go googling pics of a442f seals/ gaskets etc. I found that when dropping the valve body there 4 small black seals that mate between the valve body and transmission.. They looked identical from the washer/seal found on my oil pan magnet...So I went ahead and took 4 bolts off to remove the filter.. Next the valve body after removing the 21 bolts (almost all varies sizes.... note, FSM is needed to place bolts in right locations...) and the disconnecting the tranny kick down cable from valve body.....Sure enough, 1 of the 4 seals was missing...PO before me (15+ years ago), probably had messed with the before and while installing the valve body up to tranny again this must have slipped out and fallen to oil pan... when removing the valve body, the 3 seals that seal the 3 passage was are directly on top of solenoids... I suspect that's why my TCM had a code 63 and possibly over time messed up my solenoid #2... maybe without the seal there wasn't enough hydraulic pressure through that fluid passage way... anyways put the seal back on and mated valve body to tranny and replaced the #2 solenoid...All is well..... here are some random pics of parts seals mentioned.... Pic 1 valve body exposed after removing filter....Pic 2 shows the 3 seals in center of transmission once the valve body was removed... The middle of the 3 was the one found in oil pan magnet..Pic 3, solenoid replaced.. Pic 4, oil pan all nice and clean ready for gasket... Used a FEL PRO gasket from a 62 series with a440F....

Bad decisions make great memories. But more to come on that later. For now, the next great adventure was more than we planned on and they called off the helicopter just 4 hours into the search because we got out on our own. This pic wasn't a problem, just fortuitous.

View attachment 1374214 Was cleaning out the back of the 80 today and found my pasta roller.. so of course I had to see. Totally fits, I just need to make a rubber spacer for the c-clamp so as not to dent the tailgate. I see some outlandish Overland cooking coming my way soon .
Shouldn't this be in the 100 forum? :D
