I've NEEDED chains 3 times in the last 5 years. However, on remote backroads outside of cell coverage I was damn glad I had them. If you find yourself near Great Falls, MT look me up. I'll take you guys out fishing on the Missouri.
Cheers,
Scot

Thanks!

I bet it is beautiful up there. Doubt we will make it that far north this trip but we are already planning a late July/early August trip which would be nice to head up north.

I was just going to ask everyone if I NEED chains for our upcoming trip through Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, California.

I suppose it makes sense...
Well, you should be fine (I read about your fresh set of tires) esp. on fresh snow but for the price, it's a peace of mind IMO. I checked the local hardware store and NAPA and both quoted me between $200-250 for just a pair of regular chains! I got two pairs for less than that ahah!

Now, what made me pull the trigger was the rescuing part... Even a mid-size sedan will be tricky to pull out of a ditch on packed/icy snow if you don't have chains, let alone another fellow 4x4 so to me it's more about being prepared for the "other guy" than for myself.

This being said, I'm familiar with NorCal and I concur that lake Berryessa is MUCH nicer than Clearlake but I know nothing about fishing :D

Def. ping me when you get in the area, I'd love to hang and show you some trails around Ukiah!

Finally after helllllla aaaaaa years, my rig is being converted into part time ..Aisin hubs Lokka spool snap ring groove cut with dremel r&r bearings birfs replace 3rd member paper gasket while I am at it..

I used the 80 to haul my daughter's "new" 96 4 Runner to my friend's shop to solve a mystery engine dying while driving thing.

I was super impressed with the 4.6. It's not a rocket, but it has a ton of torque and just goes. It doesn't care if theres a load or not. I hauled it using a 20' car hauler with the truck just forward of balanced.

midfat, if it's not inconvenient, would you be able to do me a favour and measure your roof height and the highest point? don't worry about your roof rack, just the roof itself.

80 inches (203cm) from ground to highest point on roof not including the rack.

Plenty of room to fit in a 7' garage opening!! Go bigger!!

cheers mate. I am getting closer to dropping a huge chuck of money on the cruiser and because it's a daily driver being able to fit into all the 2.1m car parks here is the decider in going with 35s or 37s. looks like a 3" lift and 35's it will be.

the height is something that has taken some getting used to for me. I cant go in drive throughs with my RTT...or some parking garages even without the tent.

Dont waste your time witha paper gasket
I was actually gonna throw a bead on the mating surfaces of grey rtv plus oem paper gasket.. What you think? BTW, don't know if your still interested in those poly performance rear axles, but they will be off rig manana...

I'm changing a door on my shed, because f:censor:k small tyres, that's why :p. Need 2.3, only have 2.2 :bang:

that sucks. but me not being able to drive into any of the car parks here that all seem to be 2.1 as standard would suck just as bad. When I finally get to building my garage I need to make the door tall enough for the cruiser with something like a jerry can on the roof rack just to be safe.

but, not even sure when I can do the new suspension and tyres anyway. and that company in qld who make the 5 link front for the nissan patrol may well bring out an option for the 80 next year so do I sit on it for a while longer in the hope of getting that or do I jump in sooner and move the radius arm chassis mounts and a washer mod at the diff which is what @AutoCraft Aus does?

why would you park an 80 in a car park , Junior80 ? leave it outside where it belongs ...or lower your air pressure ;)

i park it on the street at home, no issue there, it's the shopping centre car parks. theyre all free parking inside and paid parking on the surrounding streets and thats if you can find on in a good spot, then you think about the trolley load of shopping you may have, or the tiny little people you need to control. it just seems easier and good compromise between that offroad and daily driver use

I live in Santa Monica, in a building with underground parking. I knew height would be an issue, but threw caution to the wind and installed the lift anyway. Sunday night after installation, I pulled into my subterranean garage cautiously. I have about 3/8" clearance between overhead door and my factory roof rack. :smokin:

Did I read something about the Prinsu rack actually being lower than the factory rack?

air down like you're going crawling. :p

I don't know about the prinsu roof rack. Personally, not a fan. I'm old school. Too space looking.
