I traded my 93 for a Super Duty dump truck. Even I have to admit that the 80 isn't perfect for everything. Hauled 8 full loads of sand bags today. We bagged 16-17 house, I can't remember. Amazing community I live in.
The third pic down is the temporary flood wall 3 blocks from my house. A permanent flood wall was supposed to go to the east of this but has been a legal battle because the owners of the houses east of this temporary wall didn't to have their houses torn down and didn't want a wall blocking their view if the wall was on the other side of their house.
Now we wait...Then we clean up.

WOW! Ummmm.... wow!. Rocky Uphill I believe. That trail likes to eat 80's for some reason.First, we had a blast! Besides the "minor" mishap I've had on the trail, we had a blast! It was part of the adventure.

Thanks for all the help getting me down from that trail.
Oregonians are very friendly, they even fill the tank for us! Lol.
But the trail with rain pouring was not so friendly.
I need to gather all pictures after I get settled. Just barely getting back to the Bay Area!

spent a much to short weekend in Moab. Drove down after work on Friday and took a couple friends through Golden Spike on Saturday for their first time on that trail. This was a shakedown run for one guy that's new to Cruisers and recently purchased an 80. For our small group it was an uneventful and enjoyable day. However, at about the midway point of the trail we came across a group of mountain bikers. One guy in their group had taken a bad spill and shattered his elbow. It would have been a long walk out for him from that point. We loaded his bike into my buddies 80 and he climbed in with me in my 80 and we drove him out and to the ER. It slowed us down a bit since I couldn't keep the pace I was used to. If I went any faster than a slow crawl the bumps caused him a lot of pain so we kept things pretty slow. But he got to experience all the fun obstacles on Golden Spike.
Also. the new 4.88's were nice on the trail. Not a huge change from the stock gears if I'm honest but it is does move the truck a bit better.

Went out and did gold mountain and John Bull with a buddy. Not many pics because all 6 of us were in the truck the whole time. Made it out and back with only some body damage to show for it. Those pics are forthcoming.

With the 4.88 hopefully you will see a big difference in going downhill in low gear a touch lower and controllable speed. Not getting on the brakes so much.

Like a said, there's an improvement, but it wasn't a huge change from the stock gears. Had plenty of downhill low gear stuff over the weekend.
I assume you run 35"s. Just in case you actually run 37''s then with 4.88 you are actually at OEM spec gear (on paper), which is nothing spectacular.
On 35"s you would be slightly over spec by 0.32.
In either case, as you said there won't be a huge difference, but just enough to make it better both on and off road.
Now, if you swap the x-case low gear for a 3.12, then you would see a big improvement.

Toyota Financial has a call center here in town. I know a lady, made a call, next thing you know 45 people are here filling sand bags. And brought a shiny new Tundra to haul water as well.

Yes, running 35's. Revs are definitely higher for highway cruising. but general driveability is good but wasn't bad before.
