HC live in the oil. You might be able to pass w a fresh oil change.
Just got the muffler swapped on this beast to quieten it down and it is so much better. Now i can hear some major ticking/exhaust leaks around the manifolds. It was masked by the obnoxiously loud exhaust system that the PO had installed when the engine swap was done, but that explains the strong fuel smell when the windows are down.
Also just crawled underneath and found my clanking noise when turning. Just some of the many rabbit holes to come haha

Are older vehicles not safe from this? At least in Va, emissions testing is only required for cars newer than 25 years I think? And not every county requires the test to begin with.
Emissions regs are by state and sometimes county, they're different everywhere. I have to do a full IM240 driving test for my 1982 FJ60 here in Denver. If I had a 1981 I would only need to do a 2-speed idle test. If I lived two counties over I wouldn't have to do any of it. California's a whole other thing.

Updated my AC compressor and alternator. Thanks @cruisermatt for the brand new AC lines, they look pimp.
A couple of years ago, the PO replaced the brake drums on the 1988 FJ62, but didn't paint them! As the next caretaker, my OCD wouldn't allow for the rusty brake drums peeking through the OEM chrome wheels. So a LOT of sandblasting, primer and paint - now the drums look great! I will mention two very important items:
1. For Sanity's sake please use anti-seize at the axle flange! I spent an hour trying to get the drum off because it was stuck with rust!
2. While you are in there, get out the salad spoons and adjust the rear brake shoes. Now there's a firm pedal and I can leave a skid mark!

Dang, I’m sad to miss you two.Got her all loaded up for departure tomorrow for the Lone Star Roundup. Held a bit NW of San Antonio. 3 day drive in the 60. Maureen says ‘Let Do it!’. I just follow orders.

I think it looks great as is.
On my spring green 71, I did “smoke gray” and it had a lot of tan/brown hue. On my current blue one, I did the Massey Ferguson gray and it seems a lot lighter and more blue hue. Both were rattle can, both were common “tractor paint” from coastal farm or tractor supply stores. They were both super durable. Paint didn’t even scratch after tires were installed. The olive 79 is original color as far as I know.
I drove my 60 to the money toilet that is Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN, to do all the fun stuff with my son, my cousin and my uncle. I usually prefer to hike and fish in the mountains as far away from people as I can get, but this was good family time. Driving the 60 there and back was my favorite part of the trip, though. Especially since we avoided traffic as much as possible and explored the back roads along the way. 
Spring in KS. Blew out the cobwebs 
added dash grab bar and got some more done on rear seatbelts.
