Started picking on my drip rails. They're in good condition but it needed to be done.

Replaced lower thermostat housing and all the associated sensors. Thanks to @Toyotmatt for the sensors and the plugs he supplies with them.
Also bought the some proper #8 bolts for the lower housing to block.
Matt always seems to have some correct items to repair your 62.

I’m just here for the indirect dog pics.

Got the Zeon installed and the Livid lights working. Rather than the Warn extension kit I just ordered some better cables from BatteryCablesUSA and the winch is good to go. I think my plan for now is to run the Zeon while I rebuild the 8274 with a bigger motor, then I will swap the winches out and rebuild the Zeon to go on the VW camper van. I'm loving these Livid lights, they are wicked bright!

I'v searched trying to find a splash guard/skid plate for the ARB bumpers, just wanting something to keep some of the road grime off the synthetic winch cable, but I can't find anything? Once upon a time I had such a thing that protected my 8274 and radiator, but a mechanic forgot to re-install it and I didn't notice until it was too late. Any ideas on a replacement for that? Would just run under the ARB bumper to the cross member under the radiator, possibly a little bit further. Purpose is to keep s*** out of the spinny bits, not as a true skid plate. I couldn't even find a picture of what I'm looking for, but with such a splash guard you wouldn't be able to see though between my frame and the ground as in these pictures...

Looking straight down through where the winch is now mounted, wanting something under there to deflect crap...

You can see either side of the frame mounts ARB has holes drilled, I can only image they would be for mounting some sort of splash guard but I can't find any such thing listed...

Water pump and radiator replacement on a 3FE. I had forgotten, or blocked from memory, how much of a pain this job is. You have to essentially dismantle the front of the engine to pull the water pump and associated hoses.

Also discovered the oil soaked hose running to the oil cooler was in need of replacement.

Ugh….the front of a 3FE is a m*********er!

Edit: Although I’ve found this approach and exposure brings a smile….😄

It sucks. You definitely want to try to change every old hose and clamp "while you're in there" so you don't have to do it all again anytime soon.
Yeah, that old "while I'm in there". Hoses, timing cover...front seal...oh crap, look at that side cover...boy is it dirty in here...gee that alternator sure looks old, would be real easy to replace now...
Aaaagggggghhhhhh!

Loaded up my possessions and drove 900 miles in 3 days up to Seattle along the 101! Beautiful drive, great truck to do it in. Only one minor issue (coolant hose let go a little bit) but otherwise smooth sailing!

Got the winch and lights up and running. I knew my battery was on the way out, but it was so shot that as soon as I started to spool in the winch (engine off, but radio playing) it dropped the voltage enough that the radio would shut off. Threw in an old Napa Premium I've had laying around for a few years, should last me a good while until I decide to drop some coin on a bigger battery. Took the Goat out for a spin on the dirt to listen for any rattles, but everything sounds good and tight. And yes, the lights need to be re-aimed but I have to wait for Amazon to get me the right security allen wrench to adjust them.

I'm in the big town for a few weeks so I did something for the 60 in the absence of the 60. Ordered some 42601-60262-03 70 series 16" rims. I ordered them from the local Stealership which lived up to its name -- it was a steal -- $100 Canadian each, way less than anywhere else I'm seeing. They are saying up to 2 months wait though.

I am going to wrap them in 255/85/16. I'm leaning towards the Yokohama Geolandar but the Toyo Open Country M/T looks good too. I have a set of Open Country A/T that I like.

They will fit the 80 series axles I will eventually put underneath.

Now my question: Should I paint them? I know they are already painted but usually Toyota steelies just rust right through the paint when exposed to anythign remotely salty, not that I plan to use it in winter. I'm thinking the Rustoleam silver appliance epoxy which has the exact same colour as brushed bare steel. I painted my 4runner rims with this stuff in white and it holds up well.

Not my image!!

Those Toyos pulled badly on my truck in that size, but were fine on @gt7058a ’s truck.

I’d try the yokohamas next.

I say paint them but not Rust-Oleum. You want a paint that hardens better. I 2nd @HemiAlex on the Geolanders.

I put the 255/85/16 Yokos on my truck and love them! Read too many uncertain stories about the Toyos and overwhelmingly positive reviews on the Yokos. I also got new 70 series wheels from my local dealer.
