Ok, what are you working on? I feel like I should be able to figure this out, but it's not quite comin to me...
As mentioned, replacing oil pan gasket. No trans in it currently so lots of room and access and lots of other cleaning up.

Just thought it funny as I was micro picking every tiny speck and mm of the gasket surface while there’s so many bigger things to deal with.

Necessary evil little details.

Experienced firsthand why people don’t like these LED headlights from City Racer in the snow. Sleet covered them almost immediately and I had to rely on these old school fog lights to see. Didn’t make driving in the snow any less fun though!
If you get real trucklites (rigid) they have ones for people who have to drive in the snow. They have heat coils built into the housings. Theyre just expensive. I had them on my firstgen 4runner. The light pattern is better on the trucklites too.

They are $$$$$$$ but are the real deal.

Finally doing the H55F?

Did my annual frame cleaning and fluid film treatment. Made a list of some projects I need to get to. Rear heater hard lines have just enough pitting on the outside to give me some concern, so I am inclined to bypass them. Also ashamed to admit I have never gotten around to doing oil galley plug fix. Need to do both before my next long trip.

Added the extra leaf to my OME medium kit for the rear to make it a heavy kit. Pretty straight forward, but I realized 2 things.
1. I am not as young as I once was so rolling around on the concrete floor sucks.
2. The install would have gone faster had my dog not secretly picked up and walked off with one of the nuts for my U-Bolts.

The dog gets blames for everything? 😄

Worked on this over the weekend but finally got the indicators to operate this evening. Pretty cool sh*t in my opinion. Had some great help from Casey @POTATO LAUNCHER he finally got me to understand the meaning of “Positive ground”. I kept testing the system with my jumper box and once he told me to just hook it to the car it worked.

Finished up another Customs project.

HJ61 converted to R2.8 with a few Trail Tailor goodies.

Installed my first rear main seal, not sure what all the hype is about…but I definitely had two on hand, lol.

The old original came right out by tapping/prying a small flat blade screwdriver around the outer edge. Cleaned and greased all contact surfaces, used the wide side of some scrap 1x2 with light taps to get new seal started.

Pro tip: posted long ago in an old thread…maybe by @OSS (?)
Mount the flywheel against the partially inserted new seal, install 4-5 flywheel bolts and sequentially tighten the bolts, use the flywheel to “non violently” press the new seal in. Works genius!!

(the new seal is not completely in yet though!)

Used the small edge of the 1x2 to lightly tap the seal down flush to the bearing cap surface.

Can’t believe people loosen the rear main bearing cap for this…no way in hell I was gonna touch that sleeping dog!

Easy peasy….hope it doesn’t leak!

Pilot bearing next.

I forgot to grease the seal and simply tapped it in with a hammer. It isn't leaking. I was careful to make sure it went in straight and used gentle taps.

@Skniper or anyone else, I am slightly confused.....is this the wrong rear main that i have purchased? part #90311-99065View attachment 2906157

What engine are you doing? @Skniper is doing a 3FE which has a different RMS than a 2F. They are not interchangeable. I once crammed a 2F RMS into a 3FE and ca. 100 miles later had to go back in and change it out because of the massive oil leak. Parts guy gave me the wrong RMS at the time.

I suggest using new flywheel bolts when you put it together and add a dab of blue loctite to them.

:bang: I should have realized it was a 62! Mine is going in a 2F. Thanks for confirming.

Yep, In fact I had to source the larger 11mm(?) flywheel bolts from Japan because mine is a late production 3FE. I’ve read the bolt size change was ca. Oct. ‘89.

The new bolts came preloaded with red sealant/lock on them.

Also required the flywheel holes to be drilled out for the larger bolt size.
