I'm likely wrong but I'm thinking the larger the pipe, the more likely you are to hear individual cylinders firing at idle - hence the rumble. The exhaust gas does not get "crowded" inside the pipe. Once my RPMs come up enough the exhaust note smooths out.
Not doubt requires a free flowing muffler for that to happen.
Need a fluid dynamics expert to chime in.

All that makes sense. Prior to pulling my head I had done the paper trick against the tailpipe... smaller pipe higher rat-a-tat. I have no cat either. I might call the place that did my Nissan (from the front cat all the way back was $600ish), swore they told me they’d have to do a cat on the truck but maybe they didn’t realise the age and that it’s exempt here in CT.

I did it myself for my Travelall, with bits and pieces from the auto parts stores...I won’t lie, I even looked at chain link fencing parts and poles...you can do it!

Lord, I haven’t even plugged it in yet! I got a hood, gloves, the tool for scraping slag off, few other things but yet to find a metal top to toss on a bench. I almost bought an industrial desk this weekend but the guy wouldn’t hold it for me.
Yeah yeah, tho I hear you. It’s gonna be a bit before I get ballsy enough to try it.

Took a somewhat buggy hike w/ the kid, dogs and a friend this AM at a local state park called Babcock. Luckily I picked up some head nets that were okay but not easy to see thru. Then followed the dirt road and found some big puddles. While driving home hit a cool number on the odometer.

I would love to hear it too....I have one that looks exactly like yours and ordered a restored and switched it out. Still have the old one...would be cool restore it.
I started with a Dremel and used the 320 Grit tip the one that looks like steel wool. Burred down the big indentations and cracks. Then sanded it with 400 grit sandpaper for about 10-15 min. Once it was smooth I taped it off and sprayed it with SEM Cordovan Brown vinyl spray paint. Matches the interior dead on. I actually re did it like three times, because after you spray it you can see the imperfections a lot better. So I took note of where they were, used 3M adhesive remover to strip the paint, sanded some more and repsrayed. The whole process including the redos only took like 45 min tops. Super easy to do and looks waaaay better.

This past week I adjusted my valve clearance, bought new BFG all-terrain KO2's, 31x10.5x15 on outlaw2 wheels with new center caps and lug nuts. installed the SOR smog delete pulley, put the retro 5 speed knob on from Racer City, and tightened up my exhaust flange. All in all not a bad few days. Downside is I noticed my passenger side rear spring is really saggy I mean beyond flat. Only 1/2 inch off the bump stop
Took out the inspection cover on drivers side and wiper motor on pass side to find this. I must have removed 5 lbs of TX dirt and leaves. They were really packed in there. Now I can't figure out how to re-install the wiper motor and connect the linkage. There has to be a trick to it.
New Carpet and rubber floor mats! Also painted all my vinyl parts. Added carpet to the door panels as well so everything is uniform. Also got my Inclinometer wired up. Busy day
Where did you buy those front center caps? Looks like they have enough length like OEM.
