deep rub with silicone lube followed with a long soaking in it. washed clean with hot soapy water, then gently, and I say, gently blow driered just enough to stretch out back over the edges of the grilles. I am not sold that they are rubber, and did not try the oil o wintergreen, as I feared they may be a plastic of some type, and the solvents would have ruined them. I think the heat did the trick. just don't burn em...

let me preface by stating if the vinyl is very hard, you need to be very careful. There is a metal trim stapled to the top of the chipboard card.. roll back vinyl and remove staples and pull metal trim. If you like the big ugly gap at the top before the lip in the door skin, then do what I did and roll the vinyl tightly over the top of the card and using cut down staple gub staples, simply staple the vinyl to the back of the card by pushing squarely and decisively on the staple chucked into a pair of linesmans pliers. If you want it to look better than mine, find a way to add about 1/4" - 5/16" at the top of the card (perhaps by cutting the metal trim- tall enough to bend a rolled lip in the top of it) and fixing it to the card before rolling the vinyl tightly over the edge of the card and stapling down...In my case, I will fashion a bit of trim welt of vinyl that I can border the card with, and hopefully take up the slack at the top there....but, yeah, the Non US look card is looking pretty sharp, to me, as well.

Bought it...

Fkna right that looks sharp! Nice work yo!

Still have the 80 as well?

J
Funny story. Yes, I still have the 80. And a ‘94 Disco as well (that Injust agreed to sell to a Land Rover lover). And a recently-totaled Range Rover Classic. Long story...

I’m giving the 80 to my brother. He’s a correctional officer in a state penitentiary and he runs the motorpool where inmates fix cars for the state. This 80 would be a good project for them. He had a baby last year and he has a 93 pickup he commutes in, but isn’t really family friendly. When he offered to have the 80 fixed (pending warden approval), I told him if he fixes it, he can have it for his family. Then he said we could do a swap my 80 for his truck. On the surface, it seems a little lop sided, but that truck has a new 3.0 in it. That, and the fact the 80 will haul him, his wife, baby, and her 2 boys makes it worthwhile. He would do the same for me.

So when it’s all said and done, I’ll have the 60, the truck, and one more...

Nice Mt. Princeton backdrop :).
Took me almost 3.5 hours from Salida to Denver. I’d pull over on the uphills when I could, as the cars would pile up behind me. Crow Hill was a bitch! The verdict from the cars passing by would be given in fingers. I’d get a “thumbs up” from the Toyota drivers. Everyone else voted with their middle finger...

When we drove back from Greeley in the summer of 2016 they were straightening US 285 on Trout Creek Pass and adding more passing lanes. That'll help next time we drive up towards Fairplay - will be in the '86 FJ60 with 3FE and H55f. Hoping that combination will be a noticeable improvement over stock, and enough to fend off the middle fingers :-).

Sweet 60 and nice pickup too  Too bad it's got the 3.0, but hopefully it will last a while if it's fresh. If it ever blows up, you should do a 5vz-fe or a 3rz+turbo swap.

I’m eyeballing an H55f swap currently, but plan to keep the 2f engine. I’ll live with the middle fingers. F’em if they be a little patient!!

From my understanding, as long as I stay on top of luberication, cooling, & timing, should last a long time. But those swaps would be awesome! When you come across a spare 3rz with turbo, lemme know!

Finished the rear brakes and replaced a line on the axle. Put the rebuilt 3rd member (thank you Ryan at OTRAMM) on 2 twice after I ripped the first gasket. Filled it with gear oil.
Bleed the brakes with a pressure bleeder and made sure everything was up and tight.
Dropped it from the jack stands for the first time in 2 months.
Next installing the Carb Jim C rebuilt for me, clutch lines and cylinder (lines are far to rusty looking) put the heat shields back on and back it out of the garage and turn it around for the passengers side rust repair.

One day I may even drive it down the road :D.

Just drove Atlanta to DC and back in my 62 with the factory 3FE (271k) an H55 and 33's. I took the scenic route through Fancy Gap and Harrisonburg. Not a lot of hills, but I cruised fat and happy at 75-85mph the whole way. (killed a few dinosaurs though at 11 mpg). Going to Asheville a couple months ago I ended up at about 40mph on one hill, but held what I wanted on everything else.

It would be frustrating with a trailer, but without one I was in the passing lane most of the trip.

I wonder what the 2F/H55F combo would feel like at altitude in Colorado? I'm trying to keep mechanical mods to a minimum, but it feels like the stock gearing may need to be addressed as well.

Get an AFI fuel injection first. That's the best money spent.
