Please someone take LOTS of bumper pictures both HeftyFab and Metal Tech. I am needing a bumper badly and cant decide which to go with. I have even considered driving up just to see then, likely not going to happen.

Got to see the bumpers up close today, the 6 hour round trip was worth it.
The front was a production bumper and I like the way it fits and looks. I like that the bumper is only about 65lbs more than the stock bumper, this is not counting the winch mount and winch. In person, it stick out a little, but still looks really good. There is no cutting body parts and it gives a good approach angle.
Mark asked that I not release pictures of the rear yet, since it is still a prototype, but I will say that I think MetalTech is ahead of what is out there right now. The fit was great, the bumper is very practical and carries need stuff for going off road and looks like it will protect the GX.

After visiting with Mark, I really like his passion for what MetalTech makes.

My plan is to get their front and rear bumper this fall or next spring, someone else would really have step up to beat what I saw today.

Didn't get to see anything from HeftyFab, so I can not comment on that. At the time I was there, I saw no GX's on display. Mark give me a tour of his truck, which was park away from the display. I had a flat tire on my GX today, so I got there a little later than I planned and my friend was still out on the trail, so I left around 5:15.

Thanks for the update coops2k. I saw some photos of the HeftyFab on Facebook, and while they look nice I am leaning more towards the MetalTech. That is cool to hear how passionate Mark is about his product. Can you say whether or not MetalTech's rear bumper has a swingout tire carrier?

I ran into Chris from Hefty Fab here in Colorado Springs as he was loading up. Super nice guy. I liked the 4Runner and Tacoma I saw.

Installed my Prodigy P3 brake controller in the dash on my gx. Used the factory connector, and bought a pigtail to connect up to the Prodigy. Fed it up from underneath into the dash. Removed the ashtray compartment, and wedged the controller into the opening with high density foam. The factory ashtray cover will slip into place and be a stealth installation, when I get back in town.

Made the mistake of taking the GX to the auto wash. Yeah my rear spoiler just waves freely in the wind now. I'll look at it closer this weekend and either fix it or remove it completely.

Half way through a long road trip with the family with a loaded pop-up in tow. Drove from Iowa to New Hampshire so far. Stayed in Niagara Falls, the Adirondacks and head to Acadia tomorrow after a stop at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Vermont today. GX doing well but feels a little small with a wife, four kids, and gear in the GX. Had me thinking about a 200 but holy $$$$$hoot!

A roof rack would be a good idea if you don't have one already. Maybe even on the pop-up instead.
My buddy did our Baja trip with 6 adults in his 80 and everyone had 1 front runner cargo box for luggage and he had 8 up on top of his roof rack. His Mom and sister got two boxes.

Get a real roof rack like a Front Runner or a cargo box. I wanted to leave my Yakima Megawarrior on the side of the road this last trip. Any speeds over 70mph and it would buffet in the wind and shake the truck no matter how I loaded my gear.

Preferably something with a deflector, too. The wind noise from my Pioneer platform was pretty bad, and extreme when loaded.

I will post a picture if I remember but I tried a cheap trick on my rack. Wrap a bungee cord around the front bar. Drastic decline in noise. Like how there use to be a coil wrap around a car radio antenna. May not work on pioneer though.

Spent $572 on a broken sun roof that was stuck open. That was just to get it closed. Now i can't use it period. Awesome day.
