A couple of weeks ago my triple locked 94’ 80 Series sold and the search seriously began for a 40 Series. And after at trip on Tuesday to see a couple in Costa Mesa & San Clemente it was back up on a Friday morning to check out a 3rd one. Found what I believe to be a terrific find from a cool older guy in LA who has owned it for about 12 years. Engine was rebuilt 5 years ago and really hasn’t been driven but a few blocks around the hood since. Well that is at least the story I got so let’s see what I actually got from the MUD Gurus!

So it would appear that this is a (621) Rustic Green (Dark). VIN is FJ40192909 engine stamp indicates 2F 154673. Frame matches the body FJ40~192909

What's the matter with the hold downs?

No idea what they went to, definitely not a 75 front window.
My bad, I thought you talking about the ones on the hood.

Looks good. Only thing that looks funky from your pic’s is the front window hold downs.
Now that you mention it the passenger side dash has a hole that I thought was odd. I bet it broke loose. I will have to get a photo of it.

That anti theft thing on the clutch pedal is hilarious....not really going to be stopping a lot there.
Yeah the previous owner gave it to me with the truck. Took me a minute to figure out how to install it even.

So it would appear that this is a Light Green Poly if the paint is original.

Looks like slightly faded Rustic Green to me, but I'm no paint color/code guru.

Congrats on your first 40!! - I can't read the vin plate pict you supplied - but on there is a code that translates to the original color. There are MUD posts etc on it too. Take the code and look at the the chart from cool Cruisers - here is the link.... https://www.coolcruisers.com/colorcodes.html

I will say with envy .... it took decades to make that patina - maybe just clear coat it to save that patina!!

Here is a better version of a vin plate you can read (Not Mine) and I don’t see a paint code anywhere on the placard?

"Build" codes are not on the VIN tag.
Paint and such are on the tag that is on the right fender behind the battery.

I’m not super savvy with vin tags, here is what I have on my 40, this the tag in the engine bay.

The tag from above is similar to the one in my door jam. I have a 1980 US spec.

Maybe a year thing? More to learn I guess

check for the placard on the passenger side fender kind of down by the battery tray
Thanks! Found it! Under a thick layer of dirt.
Confirms Vin Match
Paint Code 621
Trim Code LE11
