I had a chisel that fit perfectly into that groove. Put a clean tip on it and scraped that stuff off. HTH

Thanks, I used a long bladed flathead screwdriver. Just worked it around carefully. I still have to clean up the remaining residue and such, BUT the rear main seal is finally in and I retorqued the rear main cap. The pan will be back on tomorrow. Then I can follow that up with flywheel, clutch, trans/transfer and it will be drivable again...you know, minus the seats and doors and hood and rear cargo area. :)

got a question for all of you guys. having some issues on my rear leaf springs well there just old and sagging really bad. well i want to get new ones but i dont know what i need to do it. should i go longer springs? i have no problem re welding the mounts on. i dont want to cut the finders out yet but there close to be hitting the tires in the rear. soo if any one knows what size of springs i need to go let me know thanks.

Take your rig to a good spring shop and get them re arched that can pep them up and its cheep. Do you have fj40 springs on your rig now? Those look really short!

Sounds like the start of a thread...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch. I got my driveshaft back from the driveshaft shop.
Don't you just hate it when the shaft comes apart and you have to put it back together and you wish you had painted it so you know just how it goes back together? Yeah, me too. So I made sure to paint it this time.

There is a way to put OME springs on your Pig:

That fixed it...I can drive on the freeway again. Apparently, the ding I put in my old driveshaft knocked it out of balance, and .188" tubing doesn't balance real well anyway. Then with the 4.88 gears, I was getting vibration at anything more than 55 MPH. Now I can get up to 65 or so, taching 3k, nice and fairly smooth.

and got a box from C.Dan...

That's funny you call your 55 the blue bomber. I had a 60 I called the blue bomber. I have had my pig for several years and used to call it Gloria. But for the last couple of years have just been calling it the pig. So lately I was thinking I would change her name to a him name. Piggie sex change and call him Mr. Pig. From that part in the lion king where pumba says "they call me MR. PIG!"
I'm dreadfully close to having it back on the road. Tomorrow I head over to my barn to build an exhaust system from the headers back. 2 into 1 2.25 to 3 inch pipe with a trusty throaty flowmaster:)

Installed my "High performance modular wiring system" from ARB for my headlights (Roundeyes). Super easy. Plug in and they light up.

Did you have a build thread in the sixties forum? I think I saw a thread called the blue bomber in the 60's forum.

doubled my stock on fj55's.......

Not a build thread just a thread saying death of the blue bomber. I put her down to be an organ donor to the 55. She willingly gave up a front axle and shackle reversal setup and rear axle. It was also just time to let her go, the tired 2f was low on compression and the frame was way too far gone.

Transmission/transfer in, driveshafts on. Twisted off the solder points on the reverse switch. Has anyone figured out a better way to mount this or maybe the thing is supposed to twist when it's screwed in?

It should have a disconnect where it joins the harness. Disconnect before unscrewing/screwing.

Sounds like it is a little bit late for that now...

Replaced the driver's door latch mechanism. My neighbors are wondering why they no longer hear that loud, repetitive banging sound before I leave for work. My wife can once again shut the door.

That made me laugh out loud. Good stuff.
