What did you do to your pig today?

The shackreverse mod has always perplexed me as the steering is improved, but the ride went to s***... I’m toying with the idea of some fj62 rear springs up front, and either move the oem rear hanger back, or just ditching the mod altogether... I was going to try to do coils and radius arms, but might save that for the other pig...

The ride went to crap on mine because of that shackle angle. Apparently a PITA to engineer a suspension system that recreates the OEM castor angle, keeps the axle centrally located in the wheel well, keeps symmetrical springs, AND has a great shackle angle. At some point something has to be sacrificed. For this particular setup, it’s the symmetrical leaf springs, or at least to me, seems like the option with the least amount of fuss.

took a trip to Litchfield Connecticut for some camping with my old FJNE friends. the ride was great there and back but the ODO stopped working...ugh i hate pulling this dash apart..i forget the thread where someone took at 60 series and made it into a 55 send me a PM if you remember thanks!

it war a 62 series speedo... that was me! I'll see if i can get that for you... FWIW, I hit the trip odo reset just today to check mileage on a new full tank...

FYI... I only bent the tabs that cover the lamps a bit- you want to remove them altogether (ala classic improved lighting mods)- mine is darker than I'd like...I am even considering removing the bezel trim ring, which will allow more perimeter lightwash...

pulling that dash is such a pain in the booty. trying to get the slack from the speedo cable drives me insane. also this happens AFTER i refreshed the dash pad too :hillbilly:..i may have to try it soon as i'm to anal for something to stay broken

I take mine off at the Tcase and feed some slack up to it

Well after driving the beast around locally for the last 10 days, the steering seemed ok but definately a bit twitchy. I took the recommendations of the clan and had Deaver Springs send me some 4 degree shims, new center pins and longer u-bolts. I dropped the front springs bolted the new steel shims directly to the leaf springs and popped the critters back in place. Omg, dramatic change for the better. With that correction and the 2 Bilstien opposing dampers this steerings amazingly smooth and stable. I will live with the shackle issue for the time being. It’s a firm ride but not harsh. I rode in a stock Toyota dual cab truck today and man what a rough ride.

Leaving with the piglet in the morning to go camping up around Morro Bay. Eat some fresh sea food and then go to the hills for some camping in the trees and eat some fresh squirrel.

Thanks clan for keeping me and piglet rolling down the road with the right erection direction.

Just writing home to the clan. Wish you were here. Send beer

I've just completed the following on the FJ55.
60 Series Power Steering using 60 Box, Pitman, Intermediate Shaft and Disc Brakes w/ Hubs.
75 Series Steering Arms.
75 Series Leafs (2" lifted Toughdog brand). Gained 150mm of Lift.

Next steps are 75 Rear Diff (Disc Brakes) and maybe some Rust Repairs.
