The Body Shop manager says he wants to do the entire outside, not just the sides - who am I to argue?

Some thoughts came up:
1) do I leave the rook rack off? Im not sure, never use it but doesnt hurt anything...Opinions for or against?

I don't have a strong opinion on them either way and probably would not go to the effort to remove it and plug the holes just to get rid of it. However, if I needed to remove it and was getting the entire truck painted I would probably nix it at that time.

2) Flareless? Nah, the tire and wheel assys stick out too far for that and I dont need to get sprayed in every puddle when my window is down.
3) Remove the back sombrero emblem, fill with weld, paint over - yes, clean it up!

I noticed several layers of dirt under hard to reach places from many, many dirt roads. I also can tell that the truck rides higher without the heavy bumpers on it!

May be time to drill holes for the needed snorkel before painting.

decided to leave the roof rack, no snorkle in the plans...

Also deleting the big long "Landcruiser" emblem in the middle of the tailgate

Fresh oil change on the 80 in preparation for the Beach Run, using Mobile 1 High Mileage 5w30. I only drove it about 2800 miles in the past year so this may be the last synthetic oil change I do as I don't think I am getting any benefit with once a year changes under 3000 miles...:steer:

Murf's team replaced the doors window moldings, window runs, and rear hatch rubber seal--officially winterized. Murf's team did great work as usual.

Thanks Zona for the biz!

Saw my 80 today at the body shop

Welds done, prepping the body today and rumor has it will see the paint booth tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Still makes me look twice on how high it sits without the bumpers and spare....the prepping gives almost the white look that seems so popular these days.

Got a snorkel installed (Amazon cheapie), and an Edgestar 63qt fridge for the cargo area.

The paint guy refused to paint it white ;) It is now out of the paint booth and all the tape/masking removed...

She's got a bare bottom! :hillbilly:

We ended up taking out the windshield and rear hatch glass to paint properly. Now to get buffed, re assembled, and cleaned up. Should be ready next week.

Got 4 coats of clear shot on it! Future desert pinstriping should be able to be buffed for many years to come - ha

Looks great Murf. December club outings will put the first blemishes on that ruby beauty. I think I like the l
Missing emblems

I loaned the LX to my brother  they will motor on to Monument Valley while I have to come back to the Valley for a dentist appointment

we've been on trails in the Page area for the past three days :steer:

(had to rescue some German tourists that got themselves royally stuck in rental cars on a trail they had no business being on  story for another day when I get some pics - sorry, I was busy pulling them out)

Am I wrong is the 1ZF the only Toyota/Land Cruiser engine that has the big problems with head gasket failures? My biggest concern is making sure I have antifreeze protection on vehicles up north. I have digital thermometer that tracks high and low temperature. Since I insulated the doors I have stayed above freezing inside the garage but haven't had the 18 below temperatures we had some years back.

I believe Toyota 4Runner with 3.0 v6 also has head gasket problem.

Guess not many 4Runners with the 3.0 on this so haven't heard about it. So was this a material used around this time that caused the problem? Are the replacement gaskets any better?

EGR systems, in general, mix the air up fairly well and don't create hot spots. The recovered gas mixes with intake air early in the airflow. If that didn't happen, the affected cylinders wouldn't get equal fuel mixture and you have other significant run problems. Though if poor mixing were happening, I'd think the result would be a richer mix on the affected cylinders (warm air is less dense than cool air) and thus cooler cylinder burn temps.

All hypothetical, of course.

Then again, depending on just how lean the added exhaust air was intended to make the overall mix, the amount of exhaust might lean things more than what the air temps would enrich.
