Hello,

It is overthought.

I would worry if the radiator is exposed below the front grill, a spot usually covered by the skid plate.

Some new parts are smaller than older (usually discontinued) ones. They do their job and use less space.

On the other hand, a little more radiator area exposed means a tad more heat exchange. Any engine can use a tad more cooling, especially diesel ones.

Juan
Thank you.
I have the skidplate. So I'll go with just the partial coverage by the new A/C condensor .

also extraordinary:

Well, no radiator cover would ever provide protection against what those guys were up against.
Best regards Ralf

No radiator guards for these guys, and they bet their lives on those jeeps. They also intended to attack the enemy with vehicle mounted MG's blasting away while surrounded with fuel cans full of gasoline strapped on. Balsy/crazy? No doubt but alsoextraordinary: View attachment 3646678

Hello,

Extraordinary. No doubt indeed.

Their motto, who dares wins, is quite apt.

No skid plate or suspension lift for this M29.

Good job.
Out of curiosity, and since I am thinking about replacing my return (mine is not leaking but the thrust bearing on the turbo is leaking minimally), what special tool did you end up needing?

I like how it’s advertised as having a 265L 8-cylinder diesel.

I had to buy an external torx socket set and offset box wrenches. Torx to remove the turbo studs and the offset wrench to get to the banjo bolt because I didn’t want to bend/remove the turbo heat shield.

Update dump time as I have downtime in front of my computer today:

I'm starting to tidy up and renew the interior of the 75. I pulled the interior yesterday and am starting to lay down some Kilmat. The drivers side floor pan has some surface rust from a leaky windshield gasket that I'll have to address this summer otherwise the . The pans will get a nice coat of POR15 this upcoming week. Thankfully San Diego doesn't get much rain but I don't want the new flooring and insulation getting wet and mildewy.

I bought a new front vinyl ( 58510-90L01-03 ) from my local dealer and got a killer deal for some NOS rear vinyl ( 58540-90K43-03 ) from @joekatana.

For the first 6 months of having my Holley Sniper installed I was having intermittent fueling issues. I work at home and have been pretty good about staying in a 10 mile radius of my house so the issue wasn't bad when I'd drive the cruiser but I wasn't satisfied with the performance of an already power lacking 3F.

I figured I did something wrong when first doing the Sniper install so I went back and did everything over.

This time around I did two things differently. First I cleaned and resealed the exhaust system ensuring I didn't have any exhaust leaks that would throw off the 02 sensor. Definitely should have done this in the first place.

Second, I opted out of a fuel return line from the Sniper unit. My thought after reading tons of forums was going with a dead head approach would prevent any fuel boiling issues with how close the return line was to the exhaust. Another good option for these engine layouts.

For the last 500 miles the Holley Sniper has been awesome, the AFR's have been consistent and safe. Fuel delivery has been great and driving the 75 has been a blast! The 3F is so easy to work on and after removing all but 1 vacuum line ( dizzy to sniper ) the engine bay is bare and neat. After a little over a year of ownership I do occasionally wish I bought an FZJ75 so that I wouldn't always be desiring an engine swap with more power. Owning a FZJ80 as my first cruiser was a great experience and the 1fz-fe was nothing but reliable. I could only imagine a Turbo'd 1FZ with a Holley Sniper paired with a 5 speed... Oh well

EDIT: I might as well add that in two weeks I have a remote tuning session with a Holley Sniper forum guru, I don't think the Holley sniper is as successful at self tuning as it claims to be. With any car I've had tuned the results have always been great so I'm curious to see how this turns out.

Have been contemplating putting on a sniper on my 1FZ-F! Glad to see you've got yours dialed in.

In less tech related updates I replaced as many of the cab's gaskets as I could. I've always wanted a convertible and this checks my boxes for now. I was able to replace all these gaskets in an afternoon. It was a lot easier than I thought. And who doesn't love fresh seals.

I also try to do as much driveway work as possible...

Between woodworking in the garage, working on cars frequently, playing cards with neighbors and drinking on the driveway I think I've done my part in keeping home prices down.

The neighbors come over for the drinking which is actually a funny sight to see. Probably every other week we'll all roll our office chairs over to have some whiskey and talk shop.

I ended up forgetting to order the roofs gasket but should have it in the next week or two. On the bright side I have been removing it frequently and driving around roofless. 10/10 recommend for any other 75 owners

To conclude this dump I've made a couple smaller upgrades over the last couple months.

I got a new wiper motor from the @OGBeno. Install was a one banana job but I need to get around to adapting the wiring. I bought the plug and I just need to pin it. Once again, I'm thankful to be in SoCal where I don't need to worry about wipers and rain much.

I also wanted to get new shift knobs and I saw that @TRAIL TAILOR had some great options but I'm not 100% sure if I'll keep them. The construction and quality are what you would expect from Jason (amazing) but the threading on the knob is a little allowing threads below the knob to show when fully tightened. I may try to cut off some threading to see if I can make it work because they are bitch!n otherwise. If I do end up keeping them I'll most likely use some white enamel paint to fill the shift patterns.

Threw in a new 80amp alternator from an 80 series. Bought a @Coolerman adapter expecting to have to need it after reading @Honger's thread on the upgrade. Ended up being plug and play.

End of the update dump
