Didn’t do anything to the 73 but put it to work pulling all my shrubs out of the ground . You have to love a 24v Aisin winch as it kept on pulling without complaining.

Safety first Joeri. Put a towel or blanket on that rope.

Had one of my rust repairs start to bubble back out and the wheel will bubbling near an old repair. I had some 16 gauge sheet metal laying around, so I decided to try my hand at cutting and welding some new metal in as opposed to just using Kitty hair filler over ground down and treated perforated steel. Next time I'm going to get some .024 wire instead of the .030.

Still enjoying the things I'm able to do with the still new to me inverter mig with gas set up. Welded for over 20 years with flux core and batteries always hot. So nice to be able to dial it down.

Making my way through the full birf job, small garage not being very helpful! A note to the folks who tried to welf in the wrong style studs previously, you didn't preheat the cast iron, so the weld popped off with some aggressive hammer blows :) I did get a kick out of the brake "ducting" and oh my gosh there was so much oily mud.

A decent bit of wear on the axles where the oil seal is, thinking Marlin seals to help out? Or just go for the oversetting the normal seals? Any experience/suggestions?

Oh and fun artifact of its previous life in Turkey found while disassembling dash (aftermarket AC here we go). Anyone seen this before? Pretty funny old commercial if you search the name

That's the good thing when using the rope , it doesn't wip like a steel cable when it breaks . I have a ARB winch blanket in the cruiser but stopped using it after destroying 2 ropes in the rocks and both of them just fell on the ground rather then flying around like the steel cables do.

Dismantled the steering wheel to find the cause of a dry rubbing sound. I thought it would be the steering column cover rubbing.
Instead I found it was the horn contact button. I used a tiny amount of electrically conduct grease and some WD40. Noise is gone now.
Pics for those who wonder what's under the horn pad.

Noticed my birf on the passenger side was leaking pretty bad on the way back from a trip last weekend. Went online to Cruiser outfitters and they got me squared away with a kit for my kzj78. Love the graphics on the Sumo gear box the kit comes in haha. lucky the kit came Friday so looks like I have a this evening/sunday morning project! Thanks Kurt! you guys are awesome!
Birf rebuild went off without a hitch! The most difficult part was cleaning my tools of grease after the job haha.

It didn't come out right but I was just ribbing you. I am 100% sure you know what you are doing. If you wear chanclas while you are doing it, then I may have to get serious about your safety.

There are snakes in those bushes so negative on the chanclas ;-)

Thanks for the reminder, I have a new horn contact to install...

A fellow ‘MUD member requested these photos to help locate bolt holes for a tray. I doubt there’s a lot of demand for this information, but before I delete the photos, I’ll post them up just in case. 😊
Measurements are from “center to center”.

Snuck out for a quick Bend, Oregon trip. Stopped in at Fit Garage to check out the shop, little Smith rock hike and some Crooked River fishing. Check out the 3rd and 4th picture...several people were slacklining about 1000' above camp. Nailed it.

Looked good. Super nice guys. Have some killer projects stacked up. Quality work. That blue Troopy is as nice in person as in the IG pictures.

Crossed Utah mostly on dirt with a friend in a concept Jeep Gladiator. Since this is MUD, here are some shots of my 75 in situ... I'll spare you the Jeep pics. ;)

Spent full days in 4High/Low and got incredible fuel economy (30mpg in 4H/L - 20-25mph on highways with passes going 75mph)...

.... then I drove from Gooseberry Mesa straight to Santa Cruz (got 27mpg on that haul) and had coffee with some mates...

The R2.8 is breaking in nicely. Fuel economy is superb for a loaded down rig. I'm super impressed with the engine. We geared it perfectly too.

Impressive fuel economy. It certainly makes ~6-dollar-a-gallon fuel a little less painful.

Maybe I was thinking I would hear higher numbers since your on smaller tire, but the 2.8 makes more power, and you have more weight,,,,,,,,,,

I swapped a 4BD1T in my pig on 37's and was impressed to be in the mid/upper 20's. I would love to get another 4BD1T and swap it in my Troopy.

Trying to get ready to go to The relic run today. Bj-73 got a bath inside and out. Cranked it up to get the heat on and dried out inside and my headlights wouldn't work. Went into the shop to get my multimeter and when I came back outside the headlights were on. Turn the switch off and then back on and it wouldn't come on again. Manipulated switch back and forth high beam low beam etc and they would not come on. No power to the headlight plugs. I'm guessing water has somehow gotten into the little on off light switch. Parking lights work fine.

Is there a way to disassemble that little rotating switch and clean it inside? I want to drive this thing to relic run tomorrow. I'll rig up a DIY headlight switch if I have to. Anyone know if there's a way to take that thing apart?
