Those things look Soooooo Beefy. Well if I go bending up the ones I have, I'll be replacing them with Sir Woody's elegant, and domestic creation!
I’m sure yours will be more than adequate. 😊

Started it up in -16 deg. F this a.m. parked in Stanley, Id for the last 3 days while we were up in the Sawtooth's camping/boarding (staying in a backcountry hut). It sure didn't want to start, but finally did, I guess I'll start saving for a Webasto now...Troopy is parked somewhere in the far left of the second photo.

@peterb , LJ did just fine. Wife really enjoyed it, since she grew up in the tropics, and the snow thing is still quite a novelty for her. Dummie me left the ice scraper in Vegas, but other than no issues. We saw some wild horses this morning, so well worth for us.

I eventually got my seats back from the saddlery. The original center was preserved and the sides were replaced with RICARO fabric, which is very close to the original. Also the cushion got replaced.

Also had my Christmas present installed: Got hold of some NOS Hella 170 foglights from 1986. They are mounted in the location where the original lights go.
There are also some holes more to the center, but these interfere with my winch.
But I noticed they get quite a lot of dirt thrown on them in this location from the front wheels, so I'll most likely drill some new holes and move them slightly inwards..

And I have my winch rebuild and rewired. The solenoids were molten and there was no wiring for the winch. Have build a new control box, wit new heavy duty relais, fuse and emergency shutoff (need to install a wire to operate it from the driver seat thoug).
Still need to wind up the cable.

But also a downside: After taking out my new seats for a testdrive I noticed my power steering pump is heavily leaking. :frown:

Ordered a sealing kit today and plan to get to it on the weekend. So, hopefully my next post here will be a success story of a rebuild pump. ;)

Cheers Ralf

Hopefully fixed an exhaust leak from my turbo core. The turbo specialist I usually refurb turbos at told me to smear some regular gasket maker on the mating surface as shown, but I used a copper infused rtv which supposedly withstands higher temps. I also have a hissing sound at higher revs which I assumed was due to this leak, hopefully this will sort it too. Left it to dry properly, will test it tomorrow.

Did a little dirt road exploring this evening. Bj73 seems to be smoother and quieter. I know the extra grip recaps are getting a little quieter after a few thousand miles and the mold flash/extra rubber that squeezed out is breaking away and not making noise. Engine and all seems to be running smoother as well. it makes me concerned that I'm having some unexpected hearing loss again...... Stopped at the parts store on the way home got a rubber door edge protector for the edges of my hood they rub on the steel cable limb risers that go up to my roof rack. Nice smooth rubber protective strip keeps it from rubbing paint off the edge of the hood now.

Made it all the way to Boulder, Colorado from Seattle in a bit over 24 hours - just in time to beat the snow! Here’s the BJ73 at a rest stop in Sheridan, Wyoming this afternoon. Developed an alarming-sounding knock at idle about halfway down, hopefully this VM engine will last me until I get to Albuquerque next week.
