Top Off...dork doors still on. Tonight I'll pull those and figure out some sort of license plate light.

You don't buy seat covers in a pre-designed package over there... you go to one of the auto shops that does upholstery and accessories and pick a fabric. They custom stitch a set of covers and apply them in about 4 hours. Only runs about $100-200 out the door depending on fabric choice.

I would have to assume that the fancy diamond covers were of the $200 variety.

I'm still working with Customs on this one. :)

I finally got some nice weather and finished installing my new Bikini top. Thanks Wayne!

I quickly built up a cover for the rear out of plywood. Cost about $50 bucks and while not totally waterproof will mostly keep things dry if I get a rainstorm. Some year I may try for a nicer tonneau cover but this will work for now. I also took out the carpet from the back half.

The second time I took the roof off took about 75 minutes including time to switch out the doors. I plan to leave the bikini on for the summer now. It is really fun to drive in the open air. The bikini can be installed in about 2 minutes if the rain comes.

I pulled the roof rack and that sweet spoiler off the Troopy....they will be for sale in the classifieds as I know someone will want them. The spoiler has a 3rd brake light so it will make your truck super safe. The roof racks will include the flat head self tappers, the Phillips head self tappers AND the Torx self tapper(1). Ha. 😂

Playing around with trying to make the best out of the so-so body work. Thinking I may do the roof, interior, door jambs inner doors in white and the body in some kind of camo or something. The passenger side camo is from a customer's project. We had it custom designed and printed on vinyl. The square side is just a quick experiment from some remnants I have laying around....probably would wrap the truck in the matte light grey, then layer the other colors on top. We'll see. A long ways off from messing with cosmetics.

Truck looks so much better without the crap on the roof.

Since its RAINY season here in the PI; I have decided to spend time in the garage out of the weather working on the LC. Over the past several days i have found numerous bolts in various stages of being loose. Some bolts are far more important than others. The vehicle is 26 years old so.... I guess this should be expected....
I ordered a new hub lock since the clutch assembly is slightly worn; I will keep the old one for a spare.....

Met this interesting Russian couple today who are traveling around the world in their 78 series land cruiser. The started on the east coast of Russia, drove through Mongolia heading west. Took a ferry to the tip of South America. Drove up north and stashed his truck in Panama for 4 months. Headed up to Prudoe Bay Alaska where he will ferry back to Russia. Nice people.

Quick Question if I may,

Whilst working on my A/C condenser (1989 BJ74) there is a bar that goes across the top of the condenser. Well about 3/4 of the way up the condenser. There is a cable that runs down to the bottom of the front frame and you can pull the cable, which unrolls a canvas type sheet to block off the airflow. I am assuming for cold weather or maybe river crossings? I will try and post up some pics in the next few days.

Super simple yet I have never seen one on these vehicles before. I have searched and googled heaps but can't find anything at all. Anyone have any insight on this?

Cheers,

Cheers,

I have not seen a setup like the one you described on the LCs in the PI.
Your ideas on what this is for sound correct to me...
I am sure one on the forum Guru's will have the answer.

This is a common feature on JDM HDJ81’s. It was part of what I’ve heard called the “cold weather package” which included things like heated seats and a heated fuel filter. My understanding is that it is there to help the engine warm up in cold weather; I’ve never thought of using one for deep water crossings but I’m sure it would work well.

Picked up the Troopy from the bodyshop today. Seriously chuffed with the quality of the paintwork. A massive leap of faith firstly cutting the roof off, then giving a brand new car a full respray.

Alu Cab Hercules roof goes on tomorrow, then will finally get to drive it for the first time in four weeks on Saturday once the glue has cured.

Changing rear doorany tips on hanging this thing?i had to swap in a new hinge and repaint the mounting area so no match marks to go by this time. The truck has been painted by a po and it was a nice job but rust never sleeps. Areas that had minimal rust showing through paint revealed that. Small hole in rocker.mice invaded made a nest in there lol. Replaced rockers ,wheel wells floor pans etc. Changed mirrors, welded in holes, reattached fuel filler assembly and on and on
