@Crusha maybe it caught a rock when you backed down the rocky ice luge after the failed ascent at our last Anthracite run?

No, it was earlier than that...the steering wheel has been crooked for awhile, I've just been too busy (ahem, lazy) to take a look underneath.:rolleyes:
 
Greg- take along a pipe or something like that to slip over that tie rod in case it bends again. Once they bend their strength is compromised and it will bend again! I actually bought and have n my garage a brand new Toyota FJ80 tie rod with ends figure to carry it in the truck on local runs and Coal Mine. I have seen several these things bend some so badly the truck can't be steered at all. I didn't pack it though, it's still in the garage! Let me know if you need it.
 
Greg - did you clean out the drawers? I think there might still be food in there from our March 2015 trip :)
 
So I am hopefully selling my Ram 2500 on Sunday, which means I needed to get off my arse and replace the dead alternator on my 92. With my 97 still under the knife, I need to make sure I have wheels if the truck sells.

I pulled the air pump and then the dead alternator out...who designed this?, that was a PIA.

I then compared the old and new alternator...well thats a problem. Looks like the new one is the 90amp, whereas the old is the 80amp. After a few choose words to myself, I decided to modify the new alternator and make it fit.

I pulled out the grinder and my dremel. Took some material off the rear tab on the alternator so that it will fit. Normally the alternator tabs go on the outside of the block mount, now the front tab is on the outside, but the rear tab is on the inside of the mount.

Got it all buttoned up, with a steady 14.6V charging the battery...what a pain.

Early axles are smaller not positive on the size early is like 11 mm and later axles are 12 mm

Greg go with some ARB studs. And a hi-lift handle for you tie rod sleeve.
 
While I am not actually working on it yet. ....the ball has started to roll.
Red truck is getting a new frame. ...and this frame is nice enough to call new.

Taking off wife's snow tires. I prefer the LC plastidips to the stock LX wheels but the wife says 'no'.
 
Went out to Rausch on Saturday to run with the FJNE. Had a great time as they had a decent turnout and the park wasn't too crowded. The continual timbering makes some of these trails interesting and the new property was closed due to a race event.
Anyway, went with intentions of keeping things light but got bored quickly. We jumped off 11 on the west property and ventured into 13A and B next to Rock Creek. Needless to say, there went the rest of the day! HA! Took us several hours to negotiate the trail (2 of us). Had a blast though and it felt good to get out and run the truck some.
Minor carnage occurred and my RLL took one for the team. So in spirit of the thread, I replaced my RLL. Threw another stocker on there to keep me moving but ordered a set of MTs for future abuse.

The great news is that I won 100' of synthetic winch line from Southeast Overland at the raffle Saturday night!

Having a hard time getting pics to load so you'll have to take my word for it.

I started fixing the Goat Pig. So far this week I replaced the 3rd member, wheel bearings ,seals and brake shoes in the rear diff. I found the horrible noise in the engine is the gear drive that was kind enough to fail. So I replaced the timing chain and gears in the engine. After test driving it I found the master cyl was going to the floor dur to an internal seal leak from front to back. the 40 I have is now missing a master cyl and most of the rear parts. Now that's done on to the next project. I am swapping motors from a 91 fj80 into a 89 fj62. Hoping to have that all done by wed.

On our way up to bald eagle state forest stopped at the Sears in Harrisburg for my 2nd replacement die hard platinum marine battery. They were the only store in the area to still have one laying around. frustrating that this is the third battery in two years but nice of them to keep replacing.

Wife wasn't thrilled with hanging out in the Sears parking lot for thirty minutes so now we're shopping at wegmans!

I can relate, my 31M is dead after a year. I am just going to throw two interstate MPT-24/F batteries in.
