I upgraded as well and have all the above parts. I’ll be back in VA (where the parts are) at the end of the month.Do you happen to have any used parts left over after your rebuild?
I need some used brake pads, the brake ball bearings and some other stuff.
Anyone else have any parts? Clutch assembly, motor bearing, spine shaft.
Where did you get the winch mounting plate? Did you cut the OEM fender for the fairlead?
something like this.All,
I just waded through all 19 pages of this thread, one thing I noticed, none of the '40s have an 8274 mounted with a stock bumper. My question is can the winch be mounted without modifying the stock bumper? I have a roller fairlead and steel cable.
I do not have a winch mounting plate yet.
Suggestions?
Thanks, I don't have a welder...yet. I was thinking about something that bolts to the stock frame.something like this.
there are several vendors offering a plate for the 8274.

Warn 8274 Dual Pull Winch Plate
The Barnes 4WD Warn 8274 Dual Pull Winch Plate was an idea born out of necessity. More and more rigs are tackling harder obstacles than ever. With today's super flexible suspension systems it is often helpful to "suck down" the front of your rig so that the suspension will not unload on a steep...barnes4wd.com
I am new to winching and working to figure out a solution. I have seen the HFS bumper that is ready to go, so I understand the popularity. I just prefer the look of the stock bumper.
Heavy even without the cable! There's been a few guys here weld up a plate to go behind the stock bumper. As I recall, one guy even cut a window in the stock bumper for the the fairlead and line. The stock bumper by itself is not heavy-duty enough to hold an 8274, it's just formed sheet metal. The 8274 is a heavy sum-bitch.
"my EXTRA 8274" subtle flex...i actually have a warn plate with my extra 8274.
i can post pics in a bit if you want
i never used it this way. Just showing pics in case it's something you're interested in or could use."my EXTRA 8274" subtle flex...
Did that arrangement work OK or do you think it's better to mount it lower?
