Here’s my 8274. How it started out when acquired it and the finished product. Now I just need to mount it up 😀

I have some used parts. I just ended up getting a kit. It is cheaper than buying individual parts.

I have brake discs, the balls and some other brake items. One disc is cracked. The balls are fine. I have all 4 of the original solenoids and the original motor. They work, I'm upgrading.

Do you happen to have any used parts left over after your rebuild?

I need some used brake pads, the brake ball bearings and some other stuff.

Anyone else have any parts? Clutch assembly, motor bearing, spine shaft.
I upgraded as well and have all the above parts. I’ll be back in VA (where the parts are) at the end of the month.

@cppilot Mark What did you use to clean/polish the housing? Where did you get the new sticker?

Good old elbow grease on the aluminum parts using different aluminum polishing compounds. What ever I had laying around. I think anything will work.

Collins bros Jeep 😳they sell the rebuild kits as well I believe.

All,

I just waded through all 19 pages of this thread, one thing I noticed, none of the '40s have an 8274 mounted with a stock bumper. My question is can the winch be mounted without modifying the stock bumper? I have a roller fairlead and steel cable.

I do not have a winch mounting plate yet.

Suggestions?

something like this.
there are several vendors offering a plate for the 8274.

Thanks, I don't have a welder...yet. I was thinking about something that bolts to the stock frame.

I found this, but not clear on how it attaches to the frame.

I am new to winching and working to figure out a solution. I have seen the HFS bumper that is ready to go, so I understand the popularity. I just prefer the look of the stock bumper.

There's been a few guys here weld up a plate to go behind the stock bumper. As I recall, one guy even cut a window in the stock bumper for the the fairlead and line. The stock bumper by itself is not heavy-duty enough to hold an 8274, it's just formed sheet metal. The 8274 is a heavy sum-bitch.

Heavy even without the cable!

I wasn't thinking of mounting it to the bumper, like you said, too weak. I was thinking of having the fairlead above or below the bumper, but like I said, I am a total nube when it comes to this topic.

Warn made a bracket that sat on top of the frame. I think it was made for Jeep cj's. I used because of the frt bumper style I was using at the time.

Obviously I was using a different style winch back the too. I take a pic of the bracket this evening.

"my EXTRA 8274" subtle flex... :)

Did that arrangement work OK or do you think it's better to mount it lower?
i never used it this way. Just showing pics in case it's something you're interested in or could use.
i recommend a welded mount.
this winch was originally bought for a truck i ended up selling. was never going to use the mount. Just makes storing the winch easier.

I believe this is a Warn mount.
