I've revitalised the front swaybar - swaybar itself has been fully repainted after physical cleanup with the three-step POR-15 process (with two coats of POR-15 gloss black not just one). Chassis links replaced with later ball-joint style instead of retaining the earlier link pin and bush style. Swaybar is the original factory-fitted one that uses 26 mm ID bushes at the chassis mounts.

I noticed that my chassis does not have the upper M8 captive nuts in either side that the balljoint style link brackets require, but I think the existing three bolts per link bracket will be fine.

I can't upgrade the rear swaybar chassis links to the later style as the chassis does not have any of the m8 captive nuts required to mount the later style brackets to the side of the chassis rails.

Why is later more desiresble???

The front ones on mine are always giving trouble. Dunno why. And the swaybar had been fitted with poly bushes that weren't gripping the bar properly due both to their material and the bar itself being original and worn where the bushes fit around it. So I upgraded the links while refurbing the bar.

I didn't know Witends were doing rear link upgrade brackets to suit the earlier chassis 80's like mine so will need to check those out.

Why are the later model links an upgrade?

More to the point why did Toyota change the design that radically?

The left side bracket fouls the route of the brake lines (Toyota changed the p/n's for those so altering the fabrication so they clear the swaybar link brackets would have happened then) so I just undid the clamp and spaced it off the chassis far enough to clear the new bracket as shown here:

When I lifted my '94 I used Slee's front drop spacers and kept the original configuration. I used Slee's rear extensions and kept the rear configuration as well. I didn't see a problem with the original design. Changing over to the '95-'97 setup seemed like a lot of work and no real payoff. Don't use poly bushings. They are garbage.
