In preparation for Logan's Run, I decided to get a cb setup going in my 60.

Couldn't bring myself to drill any holes in the body, and was a big fan of having it up front on the bumper.

Bought a stainless steel mirror mount bracket for the antenna, a firestik antenna, spring, and coax cable and decided to get crafty with the welder.

Was really nice to take a break from the quarter panel patches on my forty... For this install of a heavy bracket onto a heavy bumper, I was able to finally crank up the heat and not have to worry about burning through sheet metal... Actually got to try to run a bead instead of just endless tack welding.

I'm happy with how it turned out. Welds aren't cleaned up since my HF grinder finally crapped out midway through.

Don't mind the cardboard on fire below it...

Now I just have to figure out how to tune this thing! It's a Maxon mcn-30.

Nice work! Test it yet?

Moonshine is rolling again. New engine bay shot. New adjustable proportioning valve.

Haha I've tried... Not sure if the verdict though... I've turned it on and heard garble so far... I have no idea what I'm doing and Google and YouTube are failing me so far. Hoping by next weekend I will have it sorted.

Swr meter! Failing that, get one of the Charlotte guys to meet you to try transmit and receive! If it works with trucks next to each other, its likely that it'll work on the trail.

Just start rambling and yelling into the receiver on different channels. Eventually someone will tell you to STFU and you know it is now working... LOL

But Johnny's has a much more sensible idea.

No car wrenching for another day / weekend, but got the bike's up and more organization in the garage w/ LED etc:

I've been working on finishing up the sliders.

All the welding is done. Now I get to finish the window runs, vapor barriers, battery powered tent fan, and lightbar switch.

@joyRidaz and I linked up today and fiddled with the CB's. We were able to stay in contact as he drove the neighborhood. Lots of trees and lots of giant houses. The weird thing is that we both adjusted our Firesticks to min and max as we went but nothing really altered the TX or RX.

I'm curious if you ever got far enough apart for the antenna tuning to matter. Close enough together and resonance doesn't matter as much.

We only got about a 1/4 mile apart. Fairly decent reception, departed by hills, trees, and houses. @JohnVee and all the newly terrorized truckers were able to hear my little one screaming, yapping with excitement. Shh don't tell my kids, I'm going to secretly disconnect it when not needed. Don't need to clog up the channels with kid jibber jabber.

Thanks @JohnVee for getting us tuned up, and more importantly for helping me triage all the unnecessary WallyWorld survivalist gear that found its way into my cart... "I'd better get this, just in case"... But if the end of days does happen coincidentally during my day trip to Uwharrie then I'd be all set! Glad I kept the receipt.

Camping at the Group Camp for Logan's Run is barely even camping. Nathan and I slept under the stars in hammocks last year. We may set up tarps this year to keep the dew off of us. You don't need to go all out on gear for LR. The weather forecast is looking pretty good so far. Fingers crossed!
