Several folks have had good success using a reverse bleeding tool which pushes the fluid from the calipers back toward the master cylinder.
I tried this method the last time I opened the brake lines on the 80, after a round of Motive Power Bleeder and traditional 2-person method. It might have made a teeeensy bit of difference but I doubt anybody but me would have noticed it. Still looking for a little firmer pedal. Full disclosure - I replaced 2 calipers and the LPSV bleeder screw. Then I replaced the bleeders on those 2 calipers. The upside is that this trucks pedal now matches my LX’es. Downside is it still isn’t what it was. I’ll try again with the Motive or go back to my old ‘length of hose from bleeder to master cylinder’ method.

I’d probably buy the reverse bleed kit if I didn’t already have the Motive. It’s hard to find good help around here!

There is a soft line that drops down to the center of the axle from the engine bay (the one you either replaced with a longer one or extended the bracket when you did your lift...hopefully). If you clamp that one off next time, there will be less fluid loss and air intrusion. Same basic center soft line setup for the rear as well.

Several folks have had good success using a reverse bleeding tool which pushes the fluid from the calipers back toward the master cylinder. To me, this method makes a lot of sense as you are pushing the air bubbles up in the direction that they naturally want to go and not down toward the calipers. I've never used one myself.
So I haven’t messed with the Center line yet, but now is probably the time since I’m doing brakes. Is it just one line front and one line back that has to be extended? Because I looked at my axles and it looks like there are a lot of lines.

There are actually two per axle. Diff breather hose needs to be lengthened and brake line will need to be lengthened or at least fab up a simple drop bracket. 2”-3” is plenty. Remove line from existing bracket, pull slack and re-attach to drop bracket. The reason for this is that with a lift at full suspension extension (droop) you might pull the breather hose off or stretch the brake line till it snaps.

While you are fiddling with the breathers, it’s a good time to clean the end caps and blow air through to make sure they are venting. They tend to get clogged. You might also consider extending the breathers way up high to prevent water intrusion in deep crossings. Regular vacuum line works well for this.

I use this tool and always works. I go around twice

I’m thinking about Lockers in the 80. Lokka has a kit for $680 to do front and rear aussie lockers and a part time conversion. I’m considering this, the 1MPG gain from the part time conversion would pay for everything else.

I’m looking for opinions, gimme what you got.

Lock the rear and forget the front. That’s what I would do. 1 mpg is pretty insignificant. Based on driving 12k a year and bumping mileage from 12 mpg to 13 mpg you’d save $199 per year.

Doing a 360 spin here, I have a 40 question.

Currently the 40 is sitting in my garage, with no engine, tranny, or tcase.

The other day I needed to roll it forward so I moved the wheel chock, and easily rolled it forward.

When I went to roll it backwards I couldn’t get it to budge, I mean it was locked solid.

With no drivetrain caliper(or bolt) or pinion seem most likely. When you pulled driveshafts you left the flange on the diff correct? Check for the ctr staked nut

Tried rocking and listening?

It has 4 wheel drum brakes, both driveshafts are still attached to the axles, and they spin when it rolls forward. It rolls forward super easily which confuses me.

Probably a drum dragging and when you roll back it expands the shoes. Not well versed on the early drums but try backing off the adjusment a hair maybe

Had a problem with the Ferd on the way back from GSMTR, but no until we got to brier creek (fortunately). Miss at idle that caused it to stall a handful of times, low power when I could get it moving, but the weird part was that it was intermittent. Sometimes it would go away entirely, then come back randomly. OBD didn't show anything abnormal except (injector 6 circuit low), which can be caused by a broken connector, bad FICM (fuel injection control module), bad wiring harness, etc. Figured the low power could mean FICM, HFCM (horizontal fuel conditioning module, aka low pressure fuel pump) filters or injectors. Sound sample:

Since moonshine was down, I went ahead and ordered a bunch of parts, including fuel filters, new FICM, new ficm relay, new alternator and then new batteries.

All the parts came in yesterday so I got to work on the FICM first. As soon as I pulled up on the FICM, I saw that the #6 injector was disconnected  Retainer clip still on it, so the only possible explanation I have is that when I put the engine together a year ago, I didn't make sure to seat the connector properly.

Took her for a test drive and eureka!! She was fixed. All telemetry normal, will check codes today after a few more miles on it.

Fun wasn't over though, brought it home, went to restart it to hear it again and the starter died on me  Thinking back, the solenoid did stick on this past Sunday when the issue occurred, but seemed unrelated. Swapped in my spare starter this morning (the dirty one in this pic). Now we're back in action.

It's nice to be able to drive myself in my own truck again. WFH and borrowing the wife's car is no bueno

You replaced the alternator? i was really looking forward to being on the side of the road replacing it again with one out of a truck that was on the trailer...

 :flipoff2: Fixed Or Repaired Daily and/or Found On Road Dead apply here.

Everyone thought "parts truck" meant extra parts at home, but nah, I tow it around with me

Another starter?

Another starter?

Yeah, the Bosch one I bought from napa two months ago stuck on the other day, then died completely last night. Unfortunately I lost the receipt, so I get to get to fight with them about replacing a $350 starter
