Test fitting the summit cruisers swing out tire carrier. Looks good so far so now time to pull the swing out off and cut the hole in the bumper wing so it fits over the spindle.

Polling for thoughts from the peanut gallery:

How many of you have A442F/A343F (80/100) transmissions and/or valve bodies for them, that you would have rebuilt, if you could find someone you trusted?

The gasket kits for the A442F will be gone soon, there are only 5 left in US warehouse stock, the 80 series kits are NLA and the 100 series kits, while technically still in the EPC, are no longer in US warehouse stock and have no delivery date from Japan.

I have a line on a complete set of parts for "gasket kits" which I am currently in discussions to import, in bulk. Ditto clutch discs and steels/flanges.

I will be set up to build all three versions by next month, using only Toyota parts, less the torque converter which has to be a rebuilt Toyota unit. I plan to have at least one of each in stock for exchange. Considering that none are currently available, a rebuild is the only option for a reliable unit. I'm thinking prices between $2,600 and $3,000, depending on the work involved to rebuild, or $2,750 from stock.

I have one on the road with 18 months of city/highway use, if anyone would like to test drive it.

Got the 40 (mostly) ready for relic. New 4:56 gear sets (should have done 4:88 but it sees more road than trail...so I went this route) and rebuilt the front axle. It also got all new studs and the like as they looked a little suspect. Rear just got seals and new hardware.

So for now it is Spartan locked in rear and aussie in front. Already had old school longfields that looked fine. On a budget until the boy is out of college.

Test toast to Cars and Coffee went as expected...with me almost dropping a driveshaft when all 4 T-case drum to driveshaft bolts backed off. Two left the chat entirely. Someone may have forgotten to tighten/locktite those in my haste to get it done....

side note- I now know a guy in Mooresville who sets diffs up in his garage. Works for a land speed shop and is retiring soon- will be doing it in his garage. If you are not in a rush, he was pretty cheap and familiar with FJ40 diffs. Had done several prior to mine. Been doing diffs for a long time.

I know a guy in Charlotte who used to run Dana's Off-highway industrial drive-steer axle assembly line (the 70 series, which is the next size above the Land Cruiser). And is also familiar with Land Cruiser differentials.

Ultimate DD project? Time to shift focus to relic run activities though.

Did the wright brothers run an air filter?
I think the older bro just shoved a dirty sock in the younger bro’s mouth now that you mention it.

Had some more time today to get the wiring sorted out on my oba setup. Hopefully I’ll get the tank mounted sometime next week. At idle it only builds 120psi, but with the hand throttle set to 1,500rpm it builds to the 146psi shutoff pretty quickly.
