So the story continues. At some point last night they decided to ship my awning to Puerto Rico.

Confirmed by the DHL rep that "oops". Another 2 days I should have what's left of it....
I've not been following the timeline but are we closing in on "2 weeks"?

Maybe DHL'S loyal employees, in a quest for maximum customer satisfaction, have taken you awning to the beach there, to make sure you're getting the maximum solar protection???

DHL delivers packages to the top of my driveway next to the mailbox instead of bringing them 100' down the driveway to my door. Any size package or letter. Right there at the street. Rain or shine. Day or night. On the ground next to the street. Idiots. Thank god they usually only deliver crap from China that is barely worth the price of the packing material instead of items of actual value. Hate it for you, James.

Well judging by it's trip around the world, I'd be surprised if the thing is in one piece.

Arrived this morning. I got a nice pic from my wife of the box essentially split in two.... I guess we'll see how bad it is.

When you get this thing wrapped up, are you going to put it on airbnb to gather some income? That would be kinda funny, just to see who would reserve it.

Or you rent your house out for 3 or 4x the price, and camp that week at Oak Hollow.

Eh.... I'm not a fan of having strangers all up in my business.

Some updates. Got the water finished mostly. Electrical is all done except the solar panel and 2 more lights. And big hurrah, just got the awning installed, opened it up and installed the enclosure.

Come to find out they built the door panel wrong. So they'll have to make a new one and I'll be jerry rigging a door in the meantime.

With the enclosure. And a close up of the hinge. To show the folks that bought these from another source that it's pretty much the same.

That looks really nice. I don't have zippers or velcro for side panels :(
Maybe put a clip or buckle right on the trailer for tying that off.

If you haven't seen it, I try to deploy mine kind of like this guy does solo starting at 3:20 using a cargo strap to my rack or whatever:

Really a nice setup.

Thanks.

Definitely going to clip that strap to the solar panel mount once it's on there. Had it on a rope to the ground and it wasn't working right.

Saw that video. Mine's pretty high up so it's gonna be tough by myself.

Also did the AC. Went with a boat access panel. 5". Same size as the vent. Stays on for travel. Comes off when it's running. Got to put a chain or something on there so I don't lose it :)

I love those ultra HD cabinets. The doors are great. I tried to buy some doors from them because 'mine were dented' and they don't sell them separately. Would have loved to put them on the front of the main cabinets.

Looks awesome James!!!

How long will you be able to run the AC on batteries, or is that a "shore power" thing?

Thanks!

That's a great question. One that I'll leave to people that enjoy math.

"Not long" is the straight answer - so yes it's more of a shore power thing.

If anyone cares to do the math:

On low, it uses 650 watts
I have 2 Interstate Group 31 RV batteries (Costco)
Currently the solar panel isn't hooked up.
Using a 2000 watt inverter

I ran the AC and the fridge yesterday as a test for several hours. Direct sun on a black trailer made for a 90+ degree starting temp. Didn't take more than 2-3 minutes to cool it down. Figure 80 square feet with 8000 btus - even with no insulation on the roof and definite air leakage it's well oversized. Assuming I'm camping without shore power, I'll likely stick to a fan - or run it shortly at the beginning of the evening and hope to seal in the cold air.

Currently only have a single 100W solar panel, I'm interested in figuring out how much much time that will buy me - and if it makes sense to grab another panel or two. I'm fairly certain I could fit 4 panels on there if need be.

Really hoping to be able to run a full weekend with the fridge on and intermittent AC. Mounted the hot water heater last night - gonna run the faucet plumbing tonight after I bleed the brakes on the 60. Hoping that's the last remaining issue (for now) on the 60 and I can take it this week.

Otherwise it's yet another trip in the 40 with no heat/AC and a 60mph comfortable top speed with the trailer.

You're baiting me, right?

I seem to recall you were using Group 27 batts? Was that wrong?

Anywho, If they are Group 31's that puts you close to about 200 AH of storage, of which you "might" be able to get 80% out, so about 160 AH of "real" storage.

Invertors are fairly efficient ..... generally above 90%. Let's call it 90%. That leaves 144 AH of usable storage.

At 650 watts (i.e. nothing else running) the A/C will pull 54 AMPS DC!!!

One catch ... pulling large amounts of current from batteries, even lead-acids, also causes the battery to be a source of loss (internal resistance) and it loses capability.

All told I'd give it a little more than 2 hours.
