That and the fact that the reduction gearing is contained in the drop instead of being in line between the tranny output and drop section of the case. At least we have autos... a manual with no hope for a doubler would kill the 80 for me.

Since we've got Marlins attention... how about an e- locker guard that fits the 9.5" rear end? And since we're dreaming, how about a part time kit that doesn't require splitting the t-case apart? ;)
 
Yeah, but from Marlin, since I'm a brand whore. Lol... I'd honestly forgotten that Sleep makes one.
 
Marlin isn't in the business of copying parts that are already on the market. Slee has one that works, go with it.

Marlin after purchase customer service is top notch. I even know of marlin driving to someone's home and pulling the transmission and doing a repair and re installing it in his driveway. They stand behind their products.

I will stand up for the owner of TG, his name is Matt and he is in my experience a stand up guy. I have met both Marlin and Matt, oddly their shops are in very close proximity and both are good guys with a passion for offroading. No one can deny Marlin is an originator in the industry who has brought many products to market that have progressed our hobby and he makes a very nice high quality product that he stands behind, nothing but respect. Matt is a guy that you would want to wheel with, and would give you the shirt off his back. A large company like TG does have occasional issues with customer service that they could stand to improve on but overall given the volume of sales they must do the complaints seem to be few. The marketplace needs what TG offers and they have also helped to push the hobby forward. So yeah mega companies suck (like Toyota?) but they fill a need in the market and the fact that they have done that doesnt make them bad. If you have the money and you want higher quality and better customer service, by all means give MC a call. If you are broke as a joke and are ok with a product that may not be the pinnacle but will probably be good enough for the wheeling you do on the internet buy TG and get out on the trail. Just my $.02

Wait. What? You also have a 4.7 gear set? You said comp. How do I get comped?

...and is underdriving the high range via the transfer case a viable option? 10 or 20% lower high range with a super low, low range would be pure awesome for some (who bought big tires and don't want to regear).

I can't comment on the quality of these gears, but I can say from personal experience that the customer service at Trail Gear is absolute fxxxery. If- no, WHEN- you have a problem, rather than help you make it work, they'll just dick you around with unreturned calls and emails, and when you do get ahold of them, it will come out that the part they sold you won't actually fit your rig, because they prototyped it on a modded rig and, well, tough s*** for you, the end user. Or some other stupid ass reason.

Fxxx those guys. I gave them a chance and went waaaaaay out of my way to help them help me, and they burned that bridge over a $12 part. I won't bog this thread down with my personal trials and tribulations with these dick heads, but if you want to now the scoop, pm me.

Spend the money with Marlin; they actually know what they're doing, care about YOU as an individual, and will gladly help you work through any issues you have. You guys looking to save a buck aren't factoring in the value of knowledgeable after- sale customer support.

Purchased and installed one of the first sets of Marlin low range gears. They have been flawless and very quiet after many miles of use. I use them with the same confidence I had with the stocks Toyota gears, no worries.
 
We are developing more and more for the FJ80, So keep your eyes out for new FJ80 products in the coming years.

It is not an option to my knowledge,

Also when I referred to our comp gears, I meant our competition 4.7 gears for the rf1a T-case
 
Wasn't trail gear a spin off of allpro? People went their own ways?

Yeah, I was pretty sure, but figured I'd ask while we had you in the thread. I think the 3.11 gears fill the TC to the point that is often requires a mild massage from a grinder, to fit ...and the high range reduction (if done) seems to be a "second transfer case" thing.

Miso sad, but not surprised. :crybaby:

The other thing is the overall size of a fj80, we base our duals off the rf1a case. Its right at home is a 4 cyl mini truck but in all reality it would be not be up to the size & weight of a FJ80.

Sorry but no dual case at this time for the FJ80.

You don't need to mod the tank if your running an LS motor. Couple builds have been done using a np203/split case with no tank mods

Same here. Bought Marlin gears right when they came out about 5 years ago now or so.

Phenomenal upgrade to stock tcase.
