Yah thats real fast. I got a message today from the Canadian supplier that they are out of stock and expect more in 10-14 days.

So you got them in your hands all ready, what's your thoughts on them buy looking at them close up?

They look well made from what I can tell, but that doesn't mean much. Real test will be how they hold up over time.

Interested in your results. Watching

id still suggest a group buy to get as many people as possible interested and the go to Marlin with some purchasing power to see how we could bring down the nice gears a bit. he would make a nice chunk while saving the forum members/ supporters some cashola.

whos gonna start a thread?? count me in for 1 possibly 2

I vote you start the thread and put me down X1

I did a gears group buy for Nitro 4.88/5.29s a long while ago.....i think it would be best if someone who knew or was in close proximity to Marlin to head this up.

Im sure someone on here knows Marlin and might be able to smooth this over if there were a good 20-25+ buyers. And maybe even host an "install" session for all the California guys to go watch/learn and walk thru the swap alltogether. that would be cool.

Count me in as well. They promised me 10% but haven't heard back. 20% off should be good as that's their Black Friday sale.

I have limited skills and time so once its in I don't ever want to think about it again.

Contact @MItchell17 and see what he can do. If there is a big enough order I'm sure they will work with us. One of their biggest problems with producing Land Cruiser parts is the market size. By the time they have gone through all the development and testing and testing and testing there is a lot of time and effort in. Then to only sell a hand full and not make a profit is not smart business. They have to go where the money is. So lets show them that there is money here.

It is stated directly on their own website now. So unless they are blatently lying, its coming straight from the horses mouth. Dont know. Does seem strange that they dropped the price to half of original all of a sudden.

Technically it doesn't say "made in Japan" it says "We chose Japanese alloy SCM415 for its great strength and wear resistance." I know nothing of manufacturing, but that sounds like dodging the details. I'm not knocking their product, I just want to get down to the bottom of it like everyone else here.

No, I agree, as far as I know they are manufactured in China, I called the Canadian trail gear rep and asked when this thread stared a couple months ago. He said he would look into it and get back to me, and he did. Manufactured in China was his response.

Their website states the composition of the alloy used to manufacture, not location. I don't find that dodgy at all.

well i have 4 transfer cases sitting in my barn so if one takes a dump because of these gears then whatever... i am going to try them out shortly.

Still made in China. I can specify whatever metal I want them to use and either send it there or have them source it.

Made. In. China.

Not gonna lie...$313.95 is kinda tempting :hmm:

It's JIS (Japanese international standard) SCM 415. As someone said, it doesn't say "made in japan." I don't know how much you guys want to know about steel, but there are certain properties of steel which don't change (density, modulus of elasticity etc) and there are some you can modify by heat treating and what not (yield strength, hardness etc). Many of the properties which you can affect are somewhat dependent on each other, eg if you increase the yield on a steel, the "hardness" also goes up.

Is the metal in TG gear's worse than Marlin's or Mark's? Don't know. You'll have to look at mill certs, QAQC testing etc. but if you can believe it is made to the standard they say it is, most likely not. Is one milled better than the other? Don't know. We can assume based on price alone that TG is inferior, but just because something costs less doesn't always make it worse. But the more I learn, the more I think the TG set is better quality than originally thought.

I'm willing to roll the dice for $500 difference. $340 if you get Marlin to bite on a group buy and give you all 20%.
