I need a new steering wheel for my LC, the leather and foam pad are shot. I’ve seen many posts about using a Lexus LS400 wheel but those are old posts and so are those cars so they may be hard to locate. I’ve also read many posts about reviving the old wheel with new leather, too much money at this point. I was riding in my buddies 1st gen tundra the other day and the steering wheel looks the same, so this got me thinking, are there other Toyota/Lexus steering wheels that will work? My thinking is that there are more tundras and tacos out there and maybe a better chance to locate in a salvage yard. My other LC is a nonleather rig and it has a nonleather steering wheel, so I’m looking for this type of option. Does anyone have any experience with these steering wheels or am I looking at finding another LC steering wheel off a salvage or parts rig?

I think the best wheel is probably the vinyl one from the 91-92 FJ80 or a high quality aftermarket option (Nardi, etc.). Japanese leather just does not seem to stand the test of time.

e-bay $500

I guess i should have stated the year, it is a 1996 oak leather. I’d settle for a non leather LC one too.

Pic of my crappy steering wheel and one of my other LC non leather steering wheel.

I paid just a bit more than that for the whole rig, not an option nor is a $200 leather kit. I just want to find another option....cheaper option.

My cloth '94 has the non-leather steering wheel, still looks like new. I "think" the Toyotas have a fairly standard spline/dia so most "should" work, but never tried. That just what I seem to remember reading the various threads here.

I've always kind of wondered if one of those 1st gen tundra/second gen tacoma/other toyota wheels with the stereo controls would mount up.

Do you want to keep the airbag? The 93-97 steering wheel is pretty shocking looking IMHO, I wouldn't be able to look at one. Depending on your budget there are many aftermarket wheels that look good.

huh?

I've got a LS400 wheel sitting waiting to use while my grey one gets new leather.

It's a black wheel in 90% cond I got off fleabay for $80.
Exactly the same wheel as a LX450 or airbag LC.

It would most likely fit on the steering shaft splines. But, will it mate up to the steering column cover? Will the turn signal cancel mechanism match? None of the fancy buttons will work for features not already built into your original steering wheel.

There are better looking and feeling steering wheels if one doesn't care about the airbag is all I'm saying.
Ah, well 91-94 = Ni airbag in the US (IIRC). No airbags here on my 94. So when you posted 93-97 it threw me.

It sounds like Toyota used the same steering wheel mounting system for long stretches. I haven't been able to tell if it changed after the late 90s, since most of the modders are driving old vehicles.

The ToyotaNation people seem pretty adventurous and are rewiring for different airbag modules when swapping steering wheels:

The steering wheel swap thread - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

Personally, I'm interested in swapping the entire steering column. I want tilt and telescoping, like my Celica had.

I just rewrapped my wheel with a 60.00 dollar wrap and its not easy its not erfect but it looks perfect and works great.
