I'll offer this up... The guy that does my annual inspections and occasional maintenance used to be a tech at a big dealership, he told me to never let the gas pump go beyond the first shutoff when filing up, don't try to squeeze any more in the tank. If any gas overflows it flows down into the charcoal canister and trips the MIL, which can be difficult to get resolved. He says sometimes they have to replace the canister which is $$$.

No more 35s. Too many compromises. Now with Cooper ST Maxx in 285/75r17 (34"). My transmission, brakes and ears are already enjoying it much more. Nearly 25 pounds lighter per tire than the muds. Doesn't look as good as big 35 inch mud tires but whatevs. More pics when I get some dirt on them.

the toyos were heavy rubber - more than the trail grapplers but not by much. The coopers have a different carcass profile, not as squared off. the difference is the coopers swell out a bit more so I caution you to watch your front driver side contacting the KDSS and tie rod bolt. That's how I wasted a tire prematurely. bet you feel like a turbo just got bolted on. congrats

I went down from a Toyo AT2 Xtreme in the 35x12.50 variety to a 285/75/17 Ridge Grappler and gained a noticeable power, stopping and mpg difference not to mention improved road feel and reduced noise. The tiny difference in tire height wasn't missed, but the gains were appreciated. I'm sure you won't have any regrets.

Yeah, I had them on my Tundra and liked just about everything about them. The sidewall was a bit stiff due to the Armor-Tek 3 ply sidewall, but it's not uncomfortably bad. Plus, it's a small tradeoff for the supposed carcass strength.

Treads/lugs are very aggressive for an A/T.

So far they clear by a mile compared to the 35s.

The short driving so far, it's night and day. Like working out with a weight vest then taking it off and trying to sprint a 100M. The 35s were a good experience though.

Plus, there's only a 1/2inch difference in actual vehicle (ie diff) height when dropping an inch in tire size. Hopefully I can get on some dirt this weekend to see how they do on the trail in this barge.

I'm pretty sure your new tires are not as wide as your 35's...but I'm curious what the actual measured HEIGHT of your new tires are (as in...an aired...off the truck...no weight on it...like your aired up spare).

I ask because my "35's"...when measured as I describe are ONLY 34" exactly when aired up to their recommended pressure (as per @gaijin).

Almost certainly, your new tires are narrower(?)...but would love to get that height from ya...

Yeah these are significantly narrower than my Toyos

Just measured my spare. Just about spot on 34".

In other news, just bled the brakes with Redline fluid and drained/filled the transfer case with Redline 75w90. Both the brake and transfer case fluid looked good but I had/have no idea when it was done last. So now I know. This weekend is transmission and power steering fluid. Both with Redline D6 ATF.

Tony, so do you think those 285/75r17s would work if you didn't have the relocation kit?

Oh, and for the Coopers Armor tek, it take a few thousand miles, but it breaks in nicely. For me it was about 4,000 miles, and now my STT Pros are super nice to ride around on. I also have 2723s in the rear with nothing added, and I still think the ride is right where I want it.

It would be VERY close, but maybe...
Here are a few pics at full lock (brake fluid on the tire). Let me know if you want a specific angle.
I might give it a shot this weekend. If I can do away with the relocation I'd be stoked.

Umm, you weren't kidding about it being close. But I do love a tight fit. If you got time, please see if you could make it work without the relocation.

I'm also zero'd out on my SPC UCAs so some concoction of alignment specs might just work.

Sounds good, I'll make it happen this weekend.

Nice! Have a safe trip!

The CNC press brake arrives next week. I may get to @Atwalz and or @dc916cruiser before yours... pending timelines.

But brother, IT'S BEEN A LONG and ROUGH WEEK!!!!!!! However, I did get to run 30 rounds through the M24-.338 Lapua on Tuesday. Gotta check sight in for those CA zombies..... I'm going to bed now!

California only lets you pick off 10 zombies per magazine...
And now? You're supposed to HAND OVER any magazines over 10! :bang:

Flushed tranny fluid using @NLScooby video. Fairly simple process. It was a tiny bit different on my 13 (hose sizes) but mostly the same. The only hick up being I snapped a pan bolt off in the transmission. So I get to drill that out tomorrow.

Take note, like he says in the video, the rear bolts are pass through. If there's crud on the pass through portion, clean it off before pulling the fastener out. It isn't leaking, luckily, but I plan on ordering a full set of fasteners and swapping them one by one and using anti-seize. Fun times. And my garage floor is a disaster. :)

So now I'll pour myself a glass of Makers Mark and think about how dumb I am for not cleaning that fastener....

I feel for you! It took more than a glass for me to forget what a dolt I was for stripping the drain plug!
