The same reason(s) any consumer product ends up on the used market.

I was able to find a set of 285/65/18 KO2s with less than 5k miles on them with these black tundra trd wheels for $700 on craigslist a month ago. The next day I sold the wheels (not the tires, just wheels) for $600, took the KO2s to Discount Tire and had them replaced under warranty due to the cracks ($200 prorated), and even had them agree to replace them with my preferred 275/70/18 size. All things considered, I spent roughly $300 on BRAND NEW 275/70/18 KO2s with full warranty.

Now that is working it! It's not that I imagined lightly used tires would never show up on the market, I just figured it would be pretty rare. Guess not.

I have been very happy with 3 sets of General Grabber AT2. Lower cost than the BFG and equal performance.

So how did those Michelins get on the wheels?

I really like the Cooper ST Maxx tires in 255/85/16 I have. So far great tires this winter in snow and on ice.

For sure, I hear what you're saying. Not 'normal' but not as 'rare' as one might assume.

I just grabbed that picture from google to show which wheels I was referring to...overkill, I know.

General Grabber AT2 are amazing and less pricey than BFG for same tread pattern.
Before I found my lucky craigslist ko2 find, I had decided that IF I was going to treat myself to new tires they would be General Grabber AT2s. IMHO, they clearly have the all-terrain look most of us desire (just look at @LX470Mack !!), they have the snowflake/severe-service designation, they come in a variety of sizes with multiple load ranges, AND they are hundreds of dollars less than the typical A/T tires we mudders like to discuss.

They've only been mentioned once in this thread but I'll second the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. Have had ours for maybe 7k miles, love them much more than the Duratracs they replaced. I think I paid around $850 for 4 with warranty at Americas Tire.

I was dead set on Toyo ATs since they're functional yet don't have obnoxious sidewalls like the DTs did, then I saw an article featuring the brand new Falkens and so I got a quote. Tire shop guys didn't even know about them yet they're so new.

I too have scored near new tires before on CL, not quite the deal mentioned earlier, but I got 4x, 33" Toyo MTs for $600 with only 3000miles and 1yr old. It's less than 1/2 price.

I'm running the Dick Cepek Extreme Country in 255/85r16 (made by Cooper) I bought them last summer and just rotated them for the second time. I'm very happy with them. They're wearing well, have been fine in the snow and ice we've had this season and are more than capable for what I do offroad. Not too noisy and good road manners with very little MPG penalty (due to the narrow profile, I think).

How do the grabbers sound on the highway? I love the general look but never owned any.

I have KO2 on my 62 and love them - a lot
I have Firestone destination AT's on my 100 and love them - less expensive and they hold up very well. I got> 80K miles on my first set and just put on another set.

I currently have the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company - Discoverer S/T MAXX™ in a 295/70/r18. I've been very impressed so far. Very minor bit of road noise but very good off road.

I've also heard a lot of good things about this tire: Open Country R/T - Rugged Terrain Tires - Truck Tires

Both seem to have good reviews. Depends on how aggressive you want to go and what you'll be doing with your rig. But, for an all around tire I don't think you could go wrong with either of these choices

I will be going with the same Coopers when my SCS S8 arrive this week.

My .02

285/75/16 BFG KO2, may cost more but everything good in life comes at a cost. Sell your old tires and never look back. You won't regret it.

Just a slight hum to my ears. I'd say quieter than any other aggressive tread tire I've had.

I've had the bfg KO2's 285-75-16 before the new change and got 60k miles! the BFG KM2's have given me approx 45k miles on two sets of 35-12.5-18's. I love the aggressive look but suffer on the miles I get.
Can't go wrong with KO2's....

I have seen some people seriously hate on the KO2 tires? What is that about - some people say they are terrible in the snow. I'm liking the Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx too in my research. This is such a hard decision...I won't be putting many miles on my LC - I live 1 mile from work. So I will have these tires for a long time and want to pick a good one. My LC will mostly be for driving to work when the weather is crappy and taking family trips to Moab to do some exploring.

I asked @Trunk Monkey's feedback on them before making a purchase and have to agree - the KO2s perform great in snow and ice, on and off-road.
