I also don't think you would be disappointed with the Cooper's - they, the KO2s and the Cooper's - were the ones I seriously considered.

285/60/R18 Toyo Open Country ATII, very happy thus far. They're quiet at highway speeds, perform well in snow and (from what I've read) will last for a while. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Do you have pics? So I can drool and dream? Haha

The FJ60 still has the BFGs it came with. My '89 Toyota has General Grabbers but no photos. I do have one of my M1009 CUCV which had Grabber AT2:

How's everyone like the BFG KO2s in snow and ice. I wasn't impressed with the older ones, but I've heard the newer tread compound is better in the snow... "Better in the snow"... Sure, but are they "really good" in the snow?

Ko2 is excellent in the snow, the best AT I've had in the snow.....but nothing compares to a good dedicated snow tire like a Blizzak.

Check out pictures from @CatskillsRunner @LX470Mack @krice118 and others. Oh, and this thread.

I've had my Generals in snow, ice, rain, and slush, all on/off trails and they have been really impressive. My husband is running them on his Tundra now in a 305 and he is plowing with it and loves them. Not even studded. This is the first time he's run a non-winter tire on his work truck and he's been really happy with them.

Why has no one mentioned the Cooper Discoverer AT/3 tires? I think hands down they are equal to the BFG KO2 as far as performance. Now, I get it, everyone loves the aggressive sidewalls of the Duratracs and the BFGs but as far as tread and wet/dry/snow performance, the AT/3 cannot be beat. And, they are probably one of the lowest priced tires in this category. Oh yeah, they are also made right here in the USA.

Where the Rubber Meets the Road

Scott Brady of Expeditions West and Expedition Portal think pretty highly of the Cooper AT/3s as well.

I run the AT/3s on my work truck (sorry guys... big dumb log-box extended cab chevy). True, they don't look like much, but they're a good do-all, especially for the price(which is the only reason I even tried them). Very quiet on road and surprisingly good in the mud and rocks. While they're clearly not as good as a true snow/ice tire, they handle snow just fine. Ice is their big weakness.

are these the "extreme" version?

KO2's installed one month ago. I replaced the LXT Michelins. LXT's were a really harsh ride. The KO2s although aggressive in appearance, ride softer and handle better.

I really like the Cooper ST Maxx tires in 255/85/16 I have. So far great tires this winter in snow and on ice.
Do you have a picture of those tires on your Cruiser? The 255/85r16 really intrigued me when I was shopping, but settled on 265/75r16.

I have the AT/3 under my 100. It is the perfect tire for my use, which is daily driver in Kansas (all weather), gravel/hard rock roads and 12+ hours on the road to do Colorado trails. The AT/3's on my 100 are the 4th set of Cooper Tires I've owned and are my 2nd set of AT/3's. Thick sticky mud sure slows them down, but I can't say they have been a problem on ice (compared to other non snow tires).

They sure don't look like much, but the AT/3's have done me well in the past and are currently serving me well.

*Picture taken October 2016 on California Pass. Had to climb through some hard pack snow and ice in the switchbacks to get here from Animas Forks.

I'm currently torn between the ko2's, cooper at3 and the discoverer ATP. All seem to have pros and cons. On all of my other rigs I've ran KM2s, but I want a better ride nd don't need the mud treads on my DD.

decisions decisions ....

3ply sidewall would be my limiting factor if you plan to drive your truck off-road. Between your 2 choices the K02 is a 3ply, the Cooper AT3 is not or at least was not when I was shopping last fall.

Love the Toyo Open Country AT2's in 285 on our 2001! I've run these tires on several different vehicles and find them to be a great tire that wears well.

It will be driven off road, but not on any serious terrain. That's what my 80 series is for. At this point, for an extra $130 over the coopers I'll probably end up with the BFG.

I just spent all morning driving Cooper AT3s(less than 5k on them) on a sheet of solid ice, plus a couple inches of snow on top (made it more fun!). As I said before, they're a great all around tire with good manners on and off road, but they flat out suck on ice. Tough to get going and good luck stopping. The wifes Camry with snow tires gets around on ice better than the truck in 4x4. The side walls are much tougher than folks let on. I spend a ton of time on fresh logging roads and never had an issue.

There seems to be another dimension to consider when comparing 2 ply to 3 ply sidewalls. According to this post Cooper tire construction - Expedition Portal the Cooper AT3 in load tange E (LT275/70r18) has 1500 denier poly x 2 while BFG KO2 has 1000 denier poly x 3. I don't know how factually correct that post is but it might be something to consider before simply writing off a tire based on it being 2 ply.

They are not, the Extreme version seemed a little excessive for what I needed them for. I love the way these look as they are wider but lower profile compared to most on here with a 275/70 or similar.
They look good. I'm trying to decide between the at2's and ko2's. I had the at2's on my old 4Runner and loved them, but the aggressive look of the ko2's is pretty sweet.
