Question on a 40 series tie rod ends. I have a new set of ends from Japan, but the threaded portion that goes into the tie rod itself is longer than the ones that came off. When they are installed all the way, in the wheels would have toe out. Is that to be expected or is something else going on here? The previous ends were shot, and they were screwed all the way in as well, but the wheels appeared straight.

If i wanted to have adjustment in both toe in and toe out directions, i think i would actually need to cut an inch off the tie rod itself, the rod seems like it is too long. Any thoughts? Did someone change the rod at some point and if so, are there different length rods? FYI - this is my first cruiser.

Yes, there was a change in rod/end length actually - the issue is that I don't have the details on it. I noted it when installing the 555 ends.

Also note Toyota changed the length as well and include new drag/tie rod tubes when buying new also.

Call up cruiser outfitters, they can get you sorted out quickly....or cut it down like @SteveH said.

Cut an inch off the tie rod end. I did this for my FJ62 and it worked great. Clean up the threads with a thread file and use lots of anti-seize compound upon reassembly.
