I ws going to say I bought one from this guy too for my belleview

NIce pig.

I would recommend getting rid of that 3 speed. A 4 speed won't do anything for your highway speeds/rpms because both have a 1:1 top gear. But, having a synchronized 1st gear is very nice on the 4 speed.

The argument for a disc front axle is students get experience in doing a swap, they get experience in both disc (front) and drum (rear) brakes, and having discs up front is safer. A 40 front disc axle will fit. The only difference is where the brake line tee attaches to the axle.
I loved the 3 on the column but yeah the un sycronized first and reverse is rather annoying if you re not accustom to it. People always wanted to drive my 40 and I had to tell them about that and if they still wanted to. it was usually a struggle for them haha.

Great thoughts!
  • What if you took them through the FSM for maintaining and adjusting the drums, and then you all rebuild a disk front axle while it is on the bench and swap it in? Good stuff.
  • For a 4 speed swap you could keep that bellhousing, but upgrade the clutch from the finger style to the diaphragm style.
  • I found a great place in Denver for a lot of the generic weatherstrip - see my Pig thread. For the specific stuff - SLOCruiser is your hook-up!
the 4 speed and 3 speed bellhousing are not the same. you can use the fly wheel and clutch stuff. but dont mix and match 4 speed and 3 speed clutch stuff. Use one or the other. I used a 2f fly wheel and clutch in my 3 speed fj40. I wanted to swap a 4 speed with a 3 speed transfercase eventually but I didnt get around to doing it before I traded it for my fj55. I aplologize for all the comments!
