Are we posting pictures of our own Cruisers or just for “other” people?

Look at the weathertight cardboard patch that is nicely siliconed to the floor. The rust was quite concentrated under this piece.

I don’t know what I was thinking here but I must have done this 30 years ago during one of those cold winter months and never looked back.

Oh, it’s ok to ‘fess up’ here as well.

Back in the 80’s when I was still sorting through all the deferred maintenance on my ‘68, I was driving down the highway one day and one of the plugs in my cylinder head for the abandoned air injection rail blew out. Blug, blug, blug, it sounded just like a bad muffler. About 100 miles from home at the time.

Temporary roadside fix consisted of stuffing a spark plug into the hole as much as I dared without a no-turning-back crossthread situation.

I was too amused by this fix to promptly remove it when I got home, and instead told a few curious friends that I was working on an idea for an afterburner!

Coulda shared that one with @mtn biker on the podcast.

Don’t forget speaker wire in place of a spark plug wire, but when that melts, take baling wire and wrap it in duct tape.

My favorite is the road sign that we found in the middle of the Holy Cross wilderness in CO. We cut a piece to put on my broken windshield to brace one of the wipers so that it would clean the snow away. I ran it this way for 20 years!

I am no 40 series guru - working with mine is a first. Yesterday I went to pick at a truck before it went to the scrap heap and was looking at the steering linkages because I’ve always known mine doesn’t look right but just haven’t gotten to all that as yet… figure maybe it’s time. Can someone...

I don’t remember who has this as there signature, but:
“There’s nothing more permanent than a good trail fix “ or some thing like that. I had a center pin fail in a front spring pack fail. Moab stores didn’t stock a proper pin (bolt?), so we got a regular bolt that was close enough. It’s been 5+ years.

Half my rigs have a 3/8 bolt as a spring pin.

Did a vehicle inspection on a customer’s 40 on Friday. Preliminaries include
jotting down VIN and odometer readings ( helps me with ordering parts for them down the road and tracking things like warranties).

I stuck my head up to the horn button to see the odometer and saw something I’ve never seen in 40 years!

The owner had no idea that anything was wrong.

Anyway, I put a drill to the back of my clean speedo, ran a few miles on it at 75 MPH just to make sure it worked. I put it together sorta backwards, with the old tenths ring lefestmost, on purpose.

When I pulled it in the garage for a refresh I was horrified at all the half-assed work done by the PO... Baling wire and bent up clothes hangers for exhaust hangers. A random ubolt for a windshield hinge pin. Self tapping screws. Bubblegum welds abound. Single circuit non-boosted brakes without an ebrake. The list goes on... It was a deathtrap.

Turns out, it was all my work!

To fess up, I actually did that with my 40. The white "tenths" barrel has broken teeth and wouldnt click over the next number, so I moved it to the end. Odo works now, which is arguably more useful than a broken one with the white barrel in the right place.

I could lie and say I need a good odo core just to get one for free but I still have a good complete Pig Speedo left to play with. Thank you anyway.
It may look odd but it works. Sorta fits the overall theme of my Pig
