First time caller, long time listener…I wanna punch someone in the face …. With a fist covered in orange RTV sealant.

Must have thought the tube would dry up if not used up😁. One of those guys!

@Last Flight Out

Was there damage or just a mess? Was there a cork gasket also, or just the (wrong) RTV?
I dunno man, I just arrived to the party with a new oem oil pan, oem gasket and PFIG. Just trying to make things right and stop the puddle under the pig.

Oil Pan is cracked I think from the bash plate mounting points.

How about this for the wall of shame? PO used flexible natural gas line, to try and recreate the original look of the flex pipe on the (missing) egr cooler. 🤯 It’s taken me almost three years to find all the necessary Cal. smog parts and get it legal.

The 3FE uses something very similar -

No guesses needed here. Simple case of a disc installed backwards. Happens on a not infrequent basis. Not particularly shame-worthy in and of itself.
But like the guy on TV says: BUT WAIT, THERES MORE!!

Pressure plate mating surface looks like new. Not a single heat mark.

But the other side😱

The heads of all three bolts are deeply gouged! Actually, they are gouged deeper than the head of the factory bolt. How is this even possible?

My guess is that the PO ruined the factory bolts in short order and, rather than trying to figure out why they failed, they just replaced them with BOLTS WITH A THICKER HEAD! :bang:

Luckily for @daveb he hasn’t put that many miles on the truck yet (too much other deferred maintenance to deal with) so the ‘heavy duty’ replacement bolts didn’t fail…yet.

So what caused this massive wear? The wrong throwout bearing.☹️

Factory throwout bearing pictured below the culprit.

Wasn’t expecting to see this when I pulled off the front wheel drive shifter!

Stack of needle roller bearings that belong inside the nose of the main output shaft.

I’ve bought a couple of cores like that. And I think I’ve also posted somewhere apic of a factory steel plug used at one point when they ran out of the early sight glasses.

In the overwhelming majority of cases, it’s because SOMEONE in the repair chain didn’t realize that you couldn’t dip the carb with a resin sight glass!

First of many on my SA Fj43. Who needs new rubber bushings when tie wire and nails will do the job.

I bought an old truck that had spent its life on a farm, besides a strong smell of manure when the engine and heater got warm every single cotter pin on it had been replaced with a bent nail.

I did a vehicle inspection a few hours ago, and when the customer pointed out some talc on his PCV hose that he had gotten during a desert trip ‘a few years ago’ I made him open the air filter housing.
