there were speakers back there before, so there is already wires going to the back...

Yup - they still work and I have them routed to the back corners right now - just don't know exactly where I want to place the speakers. I was talking to a friend last night and he suggested placing the speakers recessed into the platform (I had thought about that) and right behind the driver and passenger seats (hadn't thought about that) b/c the rear seats have been removed and who cares what the music sounds like in the far back - just in the front.

Also found another small oil leak... :frown:

I dont think I have met a cruiser without one.....

:D Well, I really only have one true leak. Three total - one will be fixed when I change my oil next time (oil drain plug) and at the same time I'm gonna tighten the oil sending unit (should I put anything on the threads?)

Other one is from the front timing cover area - I can't see it well b/c I have the OEM splash guard (can't call it a skid plate) on there. I'm just gonna keep an eye on it for the time being b/c I don't have time to deal with it right now. I'm hoping it is coming from the timing cover, not the plate.

BTW - popped the hood to let a former 40 owner look at the motor y'all rebuilt, her words were "Damn, mine never looked like that!" She's purdy, and not in a Big Gay 2F sorta way.

How is your ORION coming? I want one of those so bad to make up for my crappy clutch skills...

I have an appt to have the glass and headliner replaced on June 4th. There is a glass shop and an upholstery shop literally across the street from each other about 45 mins away. It will probably take most of the day but it will be :smokin: when it's done.

SOR is shipping the headliner (I hope it gets here on time).

Glass is being covered by insurance but it would have only cost $240 installed. I made sure it was for the 55 and not 40 and the guy said it was for the 55, and will probably be PPG. That sounds awfully cheap.

What do y'all think about the glass price? I'm a little worried about glass for a 40 coming in...

The last time I tried to get a price on a 55 windshield my local glass place wanted $600 + for one and said it had to come from Cali.

Hey Eventhough. I work for a Glass shop as the head technician. That price isn't to bad really. It looks like they have a pretty good tech as this is usually priced on the experience of the installer. I can install this type of windshield in about 10 minutes so they most likely are only charging you for the windshield. Also as goes the 40 windshield, its not available anymore. This is because its flat and can be cut in shop so 55 windshields are the only mass produced ones left anymore, and really not to many are around. I just got the windshield in this week for mine and found it for right at 100.

Sorry thats alot of info but I just went through all this on mine a week ago and tried to get a 40 for a buddy but just went ahead and cut it as I couldn't source it anywhere.

Thanks Carm - hopefully I'll have the right windshield!

Here are a couple pics of what I've been up to.

Stereo installed - still have to build the rear platform which will have the rear speakers recessed into it.

Put down a carpet remnant (indoor/outdoor carpet) in the back which I will build the sleeping platform on top of.

Have an order of Rust Bullet that arrived which I will use on a set of rear body mounts to repair them.

Also started cleaning up the Pig a bit - doesn't look too bad. I put some Armor All on the lower dash, speedo cluster and glove box door and it turned out nicely. Now all I need is a dash cover... The pic of the stereo is before I cleaned anything up.

Other two pics on this post are the rear with the carpet laid down. I used some factory bolt points to help hold it down for the time being. I'll use these same points with some 16ga steel to tie in the sleeping platform.

Enjoy the pics! (even if they are crappy iPhone pics)

I still have the OEM wheel well covers that I might try to resurrect - or might fab new ones. I also want to build new door panels but I have to find a suitable backing material first.

This pic is of 'Reflectix' heat shield that I picked up at Lowes. IIRC a 16" x 20', maybe 30' cost around $15. I didn't have high expectations but it rocks! It basically cuts the heat coming up through the tranny hump to nuttin'!

Does it block noise as well?

Does it block noise as well?

I haven't paid much attention to how much noise it blocks. I have 100 sqft of QuietCrap down which is a butyl sound deadener and works GREAT for vibration-type noise. From what I can tell I could also use some sort of closed-cell foam padding but I'm putting that off until I have more time.

The Reflectix is basically heavy-duty bubble wrap with a metalic-like heat shield layer on both sides. I wasn't overly impressed with it in the store, especially since it only cost $15 but it works pretty darn well. It is very easy to cut and the small roll that I bought (16" wide) was enough to cover almost all of my floors.

How thick was the quiet crap and how thick is this stuff? I want to do the same but I'm worried about building up such a thick layer of "sound deadner" that my peddles will be affected.

Kinda random but I just started putting this same stuff over my sound deadener, I guess great minds think alike, and at most it is like 3/16 thick. All in all with my truck it hasn't seemed to play into any of the pedals range of motion. I used contact cement to get mine to stick to the sound deadener.

The QuietCrap and Reflectix together are not overly thick. The QuietCrap's thickness is negligible when it comes to pedal interference, and the Reflectix is about the thickness of a thin layer of bubble wrap - nothing to worry about.

I was able to get about 5 to 6 hours in on the Pig yesterday. Got distracted a few times and started working on non-essential stuff but had fun none the less.

Here are a few pics.

Mo pics, Mo pics!!!!

I fabbed the lower structure of my sleeping platform. It went together pretty easy. I used 1x10 shelving (lightweight) and tied everything together with a ton of corner braces - then tied the rear of the platform to the bed with metal screws, and the front with whatever those things are called (see pics) which allowed me to not drill anymore holes into the bed. I did leave enough room on the sides so I could fold up the sides (on hinges) and get to the quarter panels if needed.

The platform so far is VERY sturdy. The :princess: saw it and was impressed - she said "you are actually measuring!" :bang:

Worked on the dash a bit too. I was thinking about installing a dash cover at some point down the road and knew I would need to prep the current dash by cutting down the current cracks and filling them. I found some weatherstrip adhesive sitting around and used that to fill the cracks after I trimmed them down with a razor blade. It might turn out OK - and should be good enough to skip the dash pad for awhile. The weatherstrip adhesive dries different than it looks wet (is wet in the pic). It seems to shrink and I'll have to go back and add another layer.
