Sound proofing going in.

Nice. I am in the same step on my truck.

Did doing the roof help the sound levels? I haven't decided if I want to do that yet.

Looks really sharp.

I think it did a good bit. I want to add some foam to help more. But you can only get a Pig so quiet.

Yep, it isn't a caddy by any means but it would be nice to get out of it after a trip and be able to hear... ha it always takes me a few minutes to get my bearings afterwards.

Before I added all the QuiteCrap my ears would ring (like after a concert) after only an hour drive...it sucked.

Now I can drive two hours and get out and hear just fine. At 45 mph you can carry on an almost normal conversation. At 55 you have to raise your voice a bit, and at 65 you have to really raise your voice...but its much better than before. I hope the headliner will help even more, and I'm pretty sure the rear sleeping platform will supply even more sound dampening. I am going to put some foam up front (closed cell) under the floor mats and under the front seat, and I've already put some thermal material that might help a bit with sound too. I'm not going off the deep end, but I want to have a semi-comfortable ride.

did you put anything on the firewall?

your pictures look awesome but I bet it would be worthwhile adding more to the tranny hump.

I put some QuietCrap on the firewall on the inside (cab) as far up as I could reach, and I put two layers on the tranny hump. I only have about 2 sqft left! I wish I had about 20 sqft left to put another layer everywhere up front...

I was looking at this photo and seeing blank spots. Definitely a hard place to get too around the front part of the hump but also maybe the worst offender re: noise.

Yup - prob would really help to get some up there. I would love to pull the entire dash out and coat the whole firewall but I don't think I'll have enough time. I'm pretty tight getting everything done now before the UP trip with enough time for plenty of shakedown runs. :frown:

Been worried a bit about my throwout bearing. When I depress the clutch I can hear a "woaaaa woaaaa" sound, and when I come to a stop with the tranny out of gear and the clutch not depressed and I cut off the motor I can hear what I thought was the throwout bearing spinning to a stop.

Today I checked the play at the clutch pedal and it checked out per the FSM (40 specs) but I thought there wasn't enough play at the slave (4-5mm per the FSM 40 specs). I pulled the clutch cover, cranked the 2F, and the TO bearing was spinning just a bit - not as fast as the tranny though. Stopped the 2F, checked the free play again, cranked the 2F again and the TO bearing was not spinning. Had the :princess: press the clutch a few times and everything seemed OK. TO bearing stopped spinning when the clutch wasn't pressed. When the clutch was depressed the TO bearing would vibrate just a bit and make a little noise but it wasn't too bad - of course I was under the pig listening to the exhaust too.

I put about 1.5 threads extra play into the clutch slave, cranked the 2F, cycled the clutch a few times and everything seemed to check out. I'm gonna drive her a bit and see what I hear.

My oil pressure has been dropping a bit lately when I'm at idle. It goes back up when I'm driving. I pulled the cover over my oil pressure sending unit (new OEM when my 2F was rebuilt) and there was about 1/2 a teaspoon of oil in the sending unit cover. :o I'm gonna put a bit more torque on the sending unit when I change oil soon. I have probably 2000 more miles before I have to change oil but I'm thinking about going up from 10w30 that I'm currently running to 10w40 to see if that will keep the oil pressure up.

I don't have a mechanical oil pressure gauge - do y'all think I should try the thicker oil first or throw a mechanical oil pressure gauge on there?

Made a little more progress today. Installed a new Sony CD/MP3/stereo this afternoon - it plugged right in to the old harness and works great. Now I have to figure out how to mount two more speakers in the back. I have a pair of 5x7's in two separate boxes that work fine but I think I would like to recess the speakers into the sleeping platform so as to not take up any extra space above the sleeping level in the back...
