When my 2.5" OME lift was installed, the rear drive line companion flanges became skewed. They were; TC flange at 3 degrees down, and the pinion flange up 7 degrees. So I purchased a set of 2 (or 3) degree shims from Cruiser Outfitters and had a company install them a while back. However, the company installed them backwards and pointed my rear pinion flange up more at TC flange. My rig ran well, with not much issues but would have a rear drive line vibration from time to time. But I wasn't too sure about disconnecting the rear axle, drive shaft, shocks, and shock mounts. I thought about installing a double-cardan rear drive shaft, but decided to undertake flipping the shims myself..............So that is what I did this afternoon. Once completed and reinstalled everything, greased the drive shaft, and took it for a spin. Was nervous to say the least, but got it up to 60mph. No vibrations on the test drive......WooooHoooo!

FWIW - The flanges now are: TC flange at 3 degrees down, and the pinion flange at 4 degrees up.

A few photos of the sims and drive shaft.

Rick,

That looks like a perfect alignment, great work!

I too have some vibration in the rear end and need couple of shims but I've been putting it off. I'll be using the Tremec drive line angle finder app that I've had on my iPhone for a while now.
I was going to buy shims from 4Crawler, where did you source yours?

The alignment is a heck of a lot better than it was. Used this for the angle finder:

Shims were sourced thru Kurt @cruiseroutfit and bought the OME aluminum ones. I know there are better steel shims out there, but since I had and OME lift, I stuck with the OME shims. And Kurt was helpful as usual.

nice, I will put that into my memory bank, when my rig gets the body back on.

Is it just the picture, or does the rear brake line seem tight? The rubber line.

It was just the angle of photo...a mere floptical-ollusion....see below, it has some slack.

I have a 1977 FJ40 that I picked up in Tucson AZ in 1993. Same color as yours. I love this vehicle. But I need a new windshield frame. I'm living in Yorktown, Va now and my cruiser has been out in the driveway (covered) for two years now. It's driving me crazy. I want to work on it. But I love your Cruiser. Good job.

Looking great Rick!! Enjoy following this thread...................

I updated the look with some new rubber (32X11.50R15) and unmodified OEM rims. The rims tucked the tires under my rig, and it doesn't look so beastly.

I'm keeping my wide modifed OEM rims for when the mood hits and I want the wider tack.

Looks great. White letter's out has grown on me... Well done!
Thanks - I think that if I had the rims painted the correct gray color, I might go with blackwall out. But I like the white letters for some reason...maybe it's the redneck in me? :hillbilly:

White letters are like Levis - wait long enough and they come back into style - - yep!
