I updated the look with some new rubber (32X11.50R15) and unmodified OEM rims. The rims tucked the tires under my rig, and it doesn't look so beastly.

I'm keeping my wide modifed OEM rims for when the mood hits and I want the wider tack.

Why'd you decide to change them? Where'd you get the new ones?

Change is good......No?

Really, I wanted to see the look of the OEM rims on my rig vs the modified ones I have. I'm going to see if these grow on me, or I'll be remounting them on back on the modified rims.

FWIW - About half the shop liked the wide rims. The other half liked the OEM rims, said it looked more original. I will say this, with the 2.5" OME lift, the 32X11.50R15's fit the rear wheel wells better with both rim choices.

Rick,
I think it's time to join the 2 cruiser club . Think about all the fun you could have then.
I love both wide and stock rims on your cruiser, if you had 2 you wouldn't have to choose.
I have white letters on one and black walls on the other - living the dream

Ha! I dig it for sure. Honesty, the change is very subtle in the pictures, but I'm sure it's much more in person. Looked good either way IMO. Did you get them from Beno? Been thinking of getting a set for the work in progress 55.

501 shrink to fit - my favorite...

Thanks - I think that if I had the rims painted the correct gray color, I might go with blackwall out. But I like the white letters for some reason...maybe it's the redneck in me? :hillbilly:

Dune beige with gray wheels and blackwalls is a nice look.

Well, these newly installed OEM rims won't get a chance to grow on me. Taking a hard left into my basement tonight, minor rubbing could be felt and heard. Yep, you guessed it, tire rub on the drag link. Totally unacceptable! I'll be mounting & reinstalling my modified rims on Monday, and that will be that......Damn, I'm glade I trade with them for all my tires. That off-the-cuff experiment didn't go as planned and would have been a waste of some good Land Cruiser funds.

Now, to replace a few exterior emblems......updated photos will be posted next week.

Rick,

Can't you adjust the 'stops' to prevent turning so far that they rub? If you really want to keep 'em...

That I could, but..............I really like the deep dish look of my modified rims, and they give my 40 a wider stance. I should have left well-enough-alone, but I like to tinker and try new things!

NEXT......well, I'm just going to drive it and smile. I'll tell you what I want next, Mr. @Racer65 has been teasing with the replica floor mat, that is what I want. Somehow that project needs to get off-center and into production...HINT-HINT!!

Adjusting the bump stops would cause me to do a 3-point turn just to park in my lower garage. But that is semantics and truth be known, I liked the wider look. ;)

Rick I have seen Cruiser corps is selling in their tire section spacers between the drum and rim...those would make you rig a little wider and without tire rubbing..

This is true, spacers would work. But I like the way my other rims look, thus are being mounted and reinstalled at 9AM tomorrow morning. :hillbilly:

So Rick your black OEM rims were widened??? Or are the black ones pure OEM??? I want the OEM look on mine with the same type of lift that you have.

Would a 10.5 as opposed to the 11.5 wide tire not rub with the unmodified OEM rim??? That is the look I am looking for..................

FWIW, I am running 10.5x33x15 tires on bone-stock, unmodified OEM steel rims, and there is no rubbing anywhere.

What brand tires?

BFG KM2 M/T

I do have a 3" lift, but I thought we were talking about the inside of the tire rubbing on steering components, not wheel wells/fenders.

I was reading today about caster angle and they said to put taller side of the shim towards the front shackle on front axle...it sounds wrong...Rick -in which direction are pointing your shims in front and rear axle?On my truck the taller sides of the shims are on the side closer to transmission on both axles...I have 4 inch lift...it sounds logical to me...

The 33X10.50R15 would not rub the drag link. That tire gives an extra 1/2" (+/-) to the clearance of that rod. The 11.50's barely rubbed at full left turn lock, on OEM unmodified rims.

Right now, I have two sets of OEM rims. One bone stock OEM rims at 5.5" wide, which I installed Friday.....and the other set are OEM which I had modified to 9" wide. The modified set moves the center of the wheel an additional 1-3/4" (+/-) away from the hubs. Thus no rubbing with the 12.50's I had on there. Here is a photo of my modified rims.
