On my 74 '40, the spare mount has a bump stop at the top and it put a dent in the rear door. Was that from POs slamming it closed or from normal driving? I have fixed the dent and do not want it returning.

So I am trying to choose whether to use the factory spare carrier mount or build a bumper/frame mount similar to what others have done. I am okay with using the factory mount as the tub seemed to handle the weight of the 33x12 just fine. It just needs a spacer so the tire doesn't touch the tub when swung out.

Got the same dent in my factory drop gate and tried to tighten by lengthening the stop/bumper screw which didn't work very good so I got a discrete bungee keeping things snug.

If it is going to wear a 33x12.5 then build or buy a tire carrier or the dent will return!
