Does anyone know of a spacer for the stock steering wheel? I added the seat extension and now the wheel is even further away. I must have long legs and short arms. I'd like to move it at least two to three inches closer to me.

Would that interfere with airbag and other wiring? You could always put a spacer ON TOP OF the wheel (outer ring only), then put another wheel (outer ring only) on top of it...

I’d never even heard of doing this but just googled and there are apparently a couple of options out there. Since you have a 94 you shouldn’t have any issues other than the wiring for the horn (if yours still works...). Not sure how it will look or the safety of it...

Horn would be the only issue. The only options I have seen are adapters for aftermarket steering wheels which I haven't really wanted to do.

This doesn't help you, but my wifes mini-van has the option to telescope and tilt the wheel...I love it. Wish that was stock on all cars because like you, I seem to have shorter than normal arms for the leg length.

Do any other Toyotas have extendible columns (telescoping) from another version that could be adapted in? Sequoia / Tundra / Newer LC/LX?

Kinda like when everyone used to buy the tilt/telescope columns out of wrecked Corvettes to install in their pickups.

I know it seems dumb to mention but when you have a deeper steering wheel, unless you have freakishly long fingers (I wear an XL glove) you can’t naturally hit the turn signals and lights with your hands on the wheel.

My wife's van is a 2011 Sienna Limited. I've also seen it in other Toyota models when I worked at a dealership. Toyota usually put it into their highest line vehicles (i.e - Limited and above)

I did however, just google something and found this in the 100 forum:

Disabling the telescoping steering wheel in the LX470

I've been wondering the exact same thing. There are lots of threads on swapping steering wheels, but I don't think I've seen one on a steering column swap. My '89 Celica had a telescoping steering column and it amazes me that the Land Cruiser didn't.

Does anyone have a pic with a wheel off, a column removed or how it mounts?

Here you go...

The second photo shows the two bolts (near the driver) and the two studs which hold the steering column in place. The lower u-joint mounting is bolt and nut, with split washers on both sides of the flange.

The smaller two bolts, nearest the driver and outboard of the four steering column mounting positions, are for the dash panel.

If you need the bolt sizes and pattern dimension, you have to pull the lower trim panel, the sheet steel reinforcement panel and the duct to get at them. It'll take about 10 minutes.

I looked into finding a Tilt+Telescope solution a while back. Toyota does not have another column that will work in this application as a direct plug/play option.
The 80-Series steering column is called "upper-tilt type." This means there is a hinge in the column and the steering shaft has a cv joint. This is the same type of column as the FJ Cruiser used. Avalon had an Upper-Tilt w/telescope option from the generation that existed around 2009, however, the mounting bolt pitch/spacing will not work. I had found steering columns from a couple other vehicles with the correct tilt+telescope options, but the mounting was all wrong.

My wife's 2014 4Runner has a telescoping column and the steering wheel is quite nice. Dunno how easy of a swap that would be, but where there's a will...

But could the mounts be "adapted" with a plate or redrill / bolts?

How about from a GX470?

She won't notice.

My OEM electric seats have a button that moves the seatback fore and aft by at least 10-12”.

I hadn't really thought about that before I posted my last reply. Then I started considering whether an adapter could be made or not.
I'd say it is probably possible, but I highly doubt it would be safe at all.

I'll post more on this later when I have more time, but I think the limiting factor might be packaging space/length of a tilt/tele column. I have more study to do to be sure.

"Safe" is a relative term. It can't be any worse than wheel spacers....... Same basic concept though......
