I’m replacing the starter and the wires on the right of the solenoid (marked with
blue tape in pic) aren’t the same. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding reconciling the differences? New starter is on the right.

Thanks!

Lots of options. Find mating new connector that's on new starter and put that on your wiring harness. Cut that new connector off and water proof butt joint it to wiring harness. Cut old connector with the complete wire and and wp butt joint it to a short section of the new wire.

You are over thinking it. just change one of the connectors and go.

Probably in your ignition switch…

First try contact cleaner, but get it into the switch and not the lock body. If that doesn’t work, get a new switch.

IMHO, You should upgrade to a gear reduction starter anytime an old style starter dies.

Not to overlook, but it is also a crawler upgrade. I gave a demonstration with the Karma Cruiser in 2009 at Katemcy/Lone Star Roundup. I couldn’t get the motor to pull me over an obstacle in 1st/low with the 3 on the tree, so I shut the engine off and let the starter walk me over.😉

I had to do that same thing to get mine on the trailer when I bought it.

Same with me. But needed to get it off the trailer and up the driveway into the garage. :p Wasn’t a gear reduction but the OG monster starter. Worked decent but I am sure a gear reduction would have been even better.
