New LC owner (2015) and trying to get to know its quirks. So far one oddity. After driving up hill (~4 miles paved road) the right front wheel well is hot. No real smell, just hotter than expected and hotter than the left wheel well. Nothing of note when driving, no vibration, no odd noise (that I hear). I have popped the hood but nothing obviously. I do not notice the same on the return trip home. So oddity or normal and if normal what might it be?

Seems like it would be a brake issue.

Buy an infrared thermometer and use it to isolate which component is getting hot. They are easy to use and inexpensive.

TJM T13. No cutting.
That's a nice looking bumper. Any extra charge for the bugs? :)

One serious question though - what are those T slots that flank the winch fairlead for?

As you’re shopping, keep in mind that “brush guards” and “bull bars” are not the same thing. Brush guards exist that are basically ONLY up to the task of helping avoid heavy brush from digging into your grill......

...Bull/Roo Bars (excluding blingy faux bars) are designed to protect against animal strikes.

If you really just want a brush guard, you can add those to your existing setup,l...but you’ll not find many fans of them here as they aren’t really much of an upgrade.
Yeah, that's excellent advice. Those so called brush guards often end up causing more damage in a minor accident than not having anything extra installed at all as they tend to fold up into the grill and hood causing extra damage. My take for many years now has been to either install a true heavy duty bumper replacement like the ARB, TJM, Dissent, or other similar options, or keep it stock.

You can do a lot with your hand for temp check (Carefully). Hot wheel? If the warmth is only going up hill, could just be normal.

Thanks for the ideas. I have done some careful hand checks and the brake does seem like a reasonable place to be looking. Just odd that I notice it on the uphill. I am going to have my mechanics take look at it sometime this week.

Could be related to the orientation, nose up causes the caliper to shift and make contact. If you have a ramp/curb you could test to see. Also, easy to remove the wheel and check for play on the suspension.

Sometimes a piston seizes in a caliper or a pad sticks in the caliper and causes a dragging brake. That should not necessarily be just uphill, but if you felt a warm wheel/hub, that's the place your mechanic will start looking.

I see in your sig line you had a T-100 for 22 years. Here's hoping the Land Cruiser goes twice that!

08 owner here. My center console storage is all hard plastic so any random items like pens, glasses rattle around like crazy. Any aftermarket solutions out there or homemade suggestions?

thanks!

Recently I’ve noticed my Center Locking Differential Light comes on while driving without being activated.

After self diagnoses, I figured out that I must stop, turn off vehicle, then restart, light goes off.

anybody have this same issue?

Yep, happens every once in a while. I get it most often on initial startup when temperatures have changed overnight. It serves as a reminder to exercise that solenoid regularly. After a few cycles (usually in a local parking lot) it will not light up for months on its own. Seems like the CDL solenoid is somewhat sensitive to me. There's probably a better explanation out there but I figure if it works, it works. Good luck sir.

Here’s my stupid question- My local Toyota dealer said they tint the windows of new vehicles before delivery to customer. Would you trust a dealer to tint windows on a brand new LC? Do they have to take anything apart to tint the windows?

is the cost of the tint listed in the purchase Price as a non removable dealer add on? some dealers love to tint the front windows and then add $500 ish to the purchase price. Costs them maybe $150

In all my experience, dealer will usually give in if you pucker up (or man up) and say your not paying any of that crap (tint, vin tagging, etc). (At least that works for large volume GM dealers)

This is actually a pretty common anomaly. Consensus is that it primarily stems from lack of use or lack of using 4LO. I try to cycle/exercise both at least once a week to once a month to avoid the issue and that seems to work. Mine has probably come on three times in as many years and shut back off after cycling the ignition.

Sadly mine is also flashing on more than 50% startups. It never did it on startup until earlier this summer. I think it is because I’m driving only a couple miles most weeks, with maybe three starts. I do use 4lo and center diff quite a bit, so it isn’t from lack of pushing the button/switch.

Q: Will the Heritage Edition BBS wheels take the same TPMS as the OEM wheels (2020 year)? I don't know if they have different gauge openings, or other compatability issues.
Thanks.

New 2011 owner here. The truck has power-folding side mirrors operated with the button next to the mirror positioning switches. However, I can't find any info on an option to have the mirrors fold/unfold upon lock/unlock. I'm guessing it's just not possible, but perhaps I simply missed it in the settings?
