My son and I happened on this event/crew by accident last year after spending a few days back Country camping and fishing up on Stony. Ended up in first spot on left coming into Ouray KOA in our green FJ80 that I purchased sight unseen on FB Marketplace two weeks prior. We tagged along across a whole bunch of peaks with no spare, no tools, and some fishing tackle for 3 days. The good energy carried us across, but we will have tools and a spare this time.

As “unofficial” attendees, we found everyone to be super nice and helpful as well. Decided that this would be an event we had to attend this year, and registered early.

Can’t wait for this trip and to meet some of y’all! We will leave out of Odessa 7/28 ish.

My wife wanted to know if she can atleast have a lawn chair installed on the passenger side before we head west…. told her that guys are still in the process of doing full engine swaps, so finishing up the fuel lines and seat (w/ new seat extensions) should be easy peasy!

Hoping the fuel/vapor line swaps will get rid of the slight fuel smell I get from time-to-time… especially when it gets hot.

Rookie question: do folks do much night wheeling at SAS? I have some lighting on the shelf that I can mount and wire but I’m wondering if that would be a waste of time.

Generally not much. But some small groups do go out from time to time. In fact there was a beautiful proposal last year under the stars! (How’s that baby coming along Zach?)

I hope we run on the actual GMRS channels and not the overlapping FRS. The quality is so much better. I’ll have two extra handhelds if folks need them.

I echo this question... would love to pre-program my radios. But I suppose as long as I have all the GMRS channels programmed I'll be square.

One other question regarding high-altitude carb adjustments... I've got a carbureted 3F and the jets aren't for high altitude. Should I just plan on bringing a vac gauge, timing light, and tach to make adjustments while up there?

Don’t overthink this. Plenty of folks to help you get on the right frequency. Usually run a few different ones daily depending on how many groups are going out and where they’re going. We always have a way to accommodate. No worries.

The easy way is mark the dizzy and block for your max and min timing marks, then turn the dizzy as needed. Maybe add one for ~12* to jump right to as needed.
