My local CAT dealer says that part number of 248-7518 is NLA.
Does anyone have an opinion on the Shell Rotella 5w40 syn oil? I an currently running Rotella 15w40 dino oil, but I am due for a change soon and it has been in the single digits this week in NJ.
I'd like to try that also.
My engine builder does 95% flat tappet stuff and he likes the valvoline vr1. The fact that it's "racing, not for street use" exempts it from emissions and therefore it has super high zinc content. It's also very cheap and autozone has it.

Your right. A lot of folks don't know the oil manufactures have cut back on the additives in their oils such as zinc and moly due to emissions and the fact the newer engines don't require it like the older ones. The CAT oil I posted is made for older Off Road equipment and truck engines, not their current engines. Make sure you get the correct oil, as they make a low emissions version also with much lower levels of the "Good" additives we need for flat tappet engines.
PantingFIsh. I'm in the same boat (Maryland). I usually run Rotella-T 15W40, but this winter I will change to Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic (The 15W40 seemed rough in the winter). Just saw an oil analysis of it (Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic analysis - Team Camaro Tech) and it has good Zinc (1200+ppm). Shell's website states it is SM and SL rated, so I think it should be good to use on the 2F.
