So my engine all of a sudden decided to just start leaking oil like crazy. Couldn't tell where it was coming from. Looked like a valve cover gasket failure is what I was thinking.
Checked and replaced.
Leak still happening.
I finally found the leak hiding behind a hose and my spark plug wire. I found a hole either from a missing plug or a screw right in the engine just in front of the 2nd spark plug in from the firewall. I finally found it just shooting out oil like a fountain!
Can anyone please help me out with what the hell this is? And or what its missing?
I've included some pictures as well.
Would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks.

Search for oil galley plug repair…there are a lot of threads on how to repair this. Be glad you found it.

Another documented oil galley plug eruption!! Is it still "rare"?

That hole is a machining/tooling port, should be a pressed in plug in that hole, they came that way from the factory in Japan....bit of an over(under?)sight on Mr. T's part. Those plugs can work loose and eventually pop out, causing catastrophic oil hemorrhaging. Relatively rare occurrence, but it's still a reality. Mine popped out years ago. I was lucky and caught it, you got lucky too.

The fix is to tap threads in the hole and screw in a plug with some locking sealant. Do some reading, it's well documented here.

Get some M8 x 1.25 x 8mm long and thread them in. Others have done this with 5/16 but personally I'm not a fan of mixed standards on my vehicles.. If you need some I can send them along as I have spares. Otherwise, use this McMaster pn.

Getting more common the older (and more worn) these engines get.

My eruption was 2007. Fixed it up and been running like a scalded dog ever since.
